banman, that looked like a solberg dorifto right there! Did that get followed by a DNF?

No, almost - 240 points at the next checkpoint. Would have been a max late if Car #27 hadn't been kind enough to yank us out. (Thanks Jason and Nicki!)

Because the only thing that travels faster than an SRT-4 is bad news.

Hey Warwick - just curious: what lens were you using for the series of closeup action shots, e.g.

I'll get my pics up tonight. This rally was just that much better in the old RWD Volvo! 1960's technology FTW! Gil is an amazing driver!

Hey Banman, if you check under "Additional Information" on the Flickr page, you'll see it lists the camera and you can click "More Properties" to see the full EXIF data for the image (lens, exposure, etc.).

Ah, ok. I was trying to use my built-in Exif viewer and it wasn't working.

Default eis munky rally team - last place finish / first place team spirit

hi guys,

it's so cool that the eis munky logo is well liked!! we had an awesome time at tbird... i'll tell my story at the bottom of the post, but first:

brian c and i came up with the eis munky idea and my pal designed the logo and printed it. i have asked her to make more decals so PM me (with how many you want)... not sure if this allowed but i'm happy to get them for whomever is keen. (if anyone wants to wear eismunky schwag, check out the siriusrally list on cafepress.)

we had the largest team at tbird this weekend. i think the coolest part was that we had an entry from each class: historic, unlim, calc (x2), paper and novice! aside from the fab logo we sported some cool cars, including the infamous green volvo, a swank sti and a mazda 323GTX. banman's off not included (they got pulled out in time to make the next reg), two of our entries didn't make it to the end, resulting in the only two dnfs (mechanical) of the rally!! oh well, finishing dead last has a certain charm and two of our other entries had awesome results. we formed our team from people that didn't know each other well beforehand and it was super cool to meet teams totally new to us; we enjoyed the stories and the advice!

this was my second tbird (my wagon, like banman's, was pulled out of a snowbank in 04) but my first as a codriver. the math is INTENSE! the second reg of day 1 was sketchy with thick mud and big puddles. i thought we were doing pretty well until about 1/2 through the reg when we got a flat tire. by the time i put out the triangle and got my eis munky shirt splattered with mud from cars racing by, gord had the tire replaced. he was so quick that we only got passed by two cars in the meantime and one of them was an early car number trying to catch up! while givin'er to catch up we passed our novices limping along with flat tires... i'm surprised more teams didn't get flats on that messy road, but maybe we just didn't hear about it. we picked up a new tire at the gas stop, and aside from math frustration and a few wrong turns, the rest of the day was pretty unremarkable. leg 2/day 1 was sort of SOP because my math was way off, but we enjoyed the drive and had resonable results considering that we were just guessing.

after getting some tips and sealegs from brian and the ryces we were up and running for day two... we were getting the hang of it, but our day 2 results didn't really improve so i clearly need more practice.

the speeds on day 2 were 'brisk' and the roads were slippery; gord had some fun keeping on time and making up time when i missed a corner. i think i had the best math ready for the last stage so i was a bit bummed when it was cancelled, but the legacy took a beating on the same road during day 1 so we were ok with not rerunning it. the last minute change was reasonable and very organized, a testament to the quality of the people in charge.

i hope we can get a new group of eis munkys together for next year! i'll promise cookies for every team member... . there's some talk of carrying on as 'gravel munkys' for the coming season, and we'll be entering alcan 2008 under the 'sirius rally team' banner.

i should add appreciation for the organizers and volunteers... it was a great event and i can't imagine how much work goes into tbird. i think it would be cool to see the answers to the tbird trivia posted on rallybc or somewhere similar... as a newbie to rallying and to bc it was fun to hear some tbird legends and it would be cool to have that info in writing.

cool photos warwick! i'm usually pretty camera happy when i am driving but i had my head in the routebook most of this weekend so it's nice to see other people's pics.

apologies for the marathon post, looking forward to more stories and photos!

I'm going to launch a team next year for Tbird (if Alcan doens't conflict)... Each car on the team has to be purchased and prepped for $300 or less! Kind of like the Plymouth-Banjul rally. Hehe...that will surely end with some epic stories...more about surviving the rally than winning

yeah... i was thinking that alcan and tbird will likely conflict... too bad! president's day is the 18th which is 3 days into alcan...

warwick, how about you combine them and do an alcan team with 500$ cars! that would be 'epic'.... or the worst idea ever...

even with reliable cars i'm starting to think there will be a survival element to alcan... not only the weather but also getting along with your teammates....

I'm down with that... can I still use my Helius? It was $300 alone.

...........actually that idea has alot of merit, but Jay is right,a good set of tires would be the cost of the car................winner gets the cars .........call it whites instead of Pinks due to the snow
