Default Q&A: Funkmaster Flex Talks Ford

Q&A: Funkmaster Flex Talks Ford

Q: When did you first develop an interest in cars?

A: My father had a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Riding in the back seat smelling that vinyl was something I really enjoyed. That was the beginning.

Q: How do you balance your interest in cars with being a DJ?

A: It's getting hard to do both. The car thing is taking over a lot of my life. But talking to people at a nightclub to see what their tastes are is a good gauge of what's going on in the car world.

Q: What's tougher, introducing an artist in the market or a new vehicle?

A: A vehicle, because you have to get somebody to buy it. Music on the radio is free. If you like it, maybe you'll spend money on the album. But there's more to consider when you're buying a car.

Q: Which Ford vehicles do you own?

A: I've got three 2006 Mustangs, two '70s Mustangs, an Expedition, two Fusions that are primarily for my car show, and an F-150. But I'm a car collector, so nothing's changed. I've got a new Dodge Charger and an old Charger. I'm going to buy the Chevy Camaro when it comes out. I'm big on American sheetmetal.

Q: Any chance of a Ford Funkmaster Flex production vehicle?

A: Yeah. We're exploring some ideas with the Mustang, the Expedition, and maybe the Fairlane. People might expect Flex to put out a vehicle that's going to break people's pockets, but I'm going to go a different route.
