How much boost is safe on 07 wrx with exaust?
I am having my car pro-tuned from CFT in Florida this weekend and the guy that owns Central Florida Turbos who has a great reputation of building powerful motors but also having a tendency to blow motors from what I have heard, is wanting to run 19psi on my pretty much stock wrx. My motor has 4,000 miles and 19psi seems like a lot, what do you guys think?

19 psi is definitely pushing it. The turbo can handle it for only a short period of time then it needs to come down. The stock turbo on the 2.5L runs out of breath fast, and at 19 psi of boost it is throwing out alot of heat that your intercooler may not be able to absorb.
While I only have tuning experience with the TD04 on the 2.0L engine, I wouldn't personally push it past 18 psi on stock intercooler. With upgraded intercooling I might even shoot for the 20s in the midrange coming down to 14 psi at redline. If you don't even have a turbo-back exhaust and he wants to shoot for 19 psi of boost, be very wary of that tune. To me it sounds like you want a safe tune and this tuner wants a very aggressive possibly engine damaging tune. If that is the case find a new tuner that is more inline with what you want. |

Contact PDX Tuning. If anyone know what is the max safe boost it would be them.

Start at 18psi and run it up from there...run around 11:1 A/F and look for knock...if there's no knock then turn the boost up 1lb at a time.
