Default ECU Reflash Limit

Having an AP, I know that much was made of its RealTime mapping feature, which allows the tuning of the car without having to reflash the ROM on the ECU. This was beneficial because it didn't require the tuner to shut the car off after every change to the tune, and also got around to the supposedly finite number of flashes the ECU could take.

Maybe I've missed it on this forum, but not much is being made of this concern -- is there really only a finite number of reflashes, or was that just more of a marketing bulletpoint? If there is a limit to the number of flashes an ecu can take, what is that limit generally?

It's been discussed into the ground.

Search "ecu flash limit", 8th thread listed with the word "n00b" in the title.

I've been debating about switching to open source, but if i can do real time maps, i'm definitely using it.

Do you know where to find more info on this?

There's overhaul of Enginuity going on right now that is pretty in-depth. Once that is complete, I believe Jared is going to work on adding support for RamTune in Enginuity. I've been running the code on my 02 wrx for about a month - no issues whatsoever. I would like to figure out how to flash the CEL when switching maps. When we get some Enginuity test builds with the ability to block write to ram, then I can experiment with that.

To answer your question, ECU EEPROMs can be reflashed ~100 times before they're burned out.

Hmm, guess I lost mine about 80 flashes ago

It's been proven to be safe for many many more reflashes than 100.

One flash is all you get. Then you are on borrowed time.

I was just messing with you. Starting to notice a large number of similar noobs who don't research posts over at Enginuity. Is there some critical mass forum user count that pulls em in?
