Default I need to strengthen my battery connection

Ok, so here's a little history first. I had a battery in the car from the previous owner and after a while it died on me and needed replacement. I got a Optima Red Top as a replacement. What i've been having trouble with since then is maintaining a strong connection between the negative terminal on the battery and negative battery connector. The nut to tighten it can't get any tighter, it goes as far as I've been able to move it...yet I can easily lift the connector off the terminal..and for a while it would pop off and cause me to stall out, wouldn't be able to start etc.

I don't know if the terminal is just slightly thinner than oem specs or what because I didn't have this problem with the last battery. I tried wrapping some aluminum foil on the terminal or on the connector to form a thicker bond between the two. This worked for a while..but it's only a temp solution and after a while it still seems to shake loose. It still stalls/sputters out and I can even see the lights on my gauge/radio/dash dimming out as it's doing this. This causes a rough idle as well. Is there anything else I could do that would offer a better/permanent solution while still allowing me to disconnect the battery when needed?

Replace the negative battery lead with one that has a slightly smaller clamp.

Using aluminum foil is a bad idea since the dissimilar metals will corrode the aluminum especially in the slightly acidic environment. You should be able to OPEN the battery clamp, preferable using battery clamp pliers, then slip it down further onto the battery terminal, and then it should tighten properly. Unless someone has really stretched out the old terminal, in which case a new battery terminal or even a new cable would be a good idea. Either way it's way less expensive than the damage you can get with a badly connected battery and the resulting lack of voltage regulation.

get a new battery terminal. sometimes they sell sleves for terminals, as the pos and nev are two different sizes.
