is it ok to use an 01 wrx ecu on an 03? thanks

Assuming we are talking about the U.S. here, there's no 01 wrx. There's an 02 wrx, whose ecu would be ok to use an 03 wrx.

01 WRX ECU?? Probably not since that isn't a USDM ECU. If it is really a 02 WRX ECU then you can use it on any WRX from 2002-2005.
