I could be wrong, but the shifter looks very similar to an 06+ stock knob, from the picture.

its not stock, its a custom "Miata gripper knob" from MGW. here's their mustang accessories page:

the timing belt and water pump were changed by the previous owner at 60k. i think he either didnt tighten the belt down hard enough or whatever, but the water pump started making a weird clicking sound, so i replaced it with a new water pump and its fine now. regardless, miatas have a non-interference engine.

Oh, that's right. One less thing to worry about if it is done already though. Thanks. Kicking the tires more than anything, but I'll be in touch.
