Default "Bleach" (anime) Starts Tonight (9/9/06) on CN

For those of you interested in anime, another of Japan's top shonen properties (next to One Piece and Naruto) is debuting tonight on Cartoon Networks' [Adult Swim] block...

Bleach @ wikipedia.org

It should be showing at 12:30am & 3:30am EST, on Sunday morning, (9:30pm & 12:30am on DishNet), but CN considers it a part of their Saturday night block. It's a great series, watch the dubs or the fansubs, but watch it.

Bleach:
Bleach Portal - Info and Translated Manga
Lunar Fansubs (bittorrent via torrentspy) - Episodes 1-50
Datte Bayo Fansubs - Episodes 50+

I started watching this via download - japanese with fansubs.

I liked the first 3 episodes - neat idea with the ghosts and all (dont know if it was translated correctly but thats how I saw it), but I stopped watching once I discovered NOEIN.

I wonder if they'll delete the entire lesbian schoolgirl storyline.

The first major arc doesn't even really get started till episode 12 or something...

No, FOX ruins anime, CN has at least done a decent job of helping to get anime a good foothold in the U.S.

I admit, it's unlikely that I'm going to keep up with the dubs like I do with the subs and the manga... but I say support good anime in America. I'm hoping with the start of the anime, the Bleach manga will take off like the Naruto manga (which is insanely popular now).

still rather watch a fan sub...i've attempted to watch a naruto ep on cn but the dubbing and choice for voice acting is horrible...ruined just like tokyopop ruined initial d! also did the same with one piece...so editted and once again bad dubbing and voice acting choices...it's sad...

Bleh, another over-animated, over-stylized fantasy/mystic anime series about high schoolers...

Anime is stuck in a bad rut right now... They really need to do some new material and go outside the box more.

I just caught the last 10 mins of that and it was horrible. The voice actors in english are nothing like the original ones. They show no emotion while saying their lines. The only way to watch it is subbed.

It's all a matter of personal taste I suppose, Bleach is among my all time favorite anime/manga properties. As for a rut... mind you, we may see 1 or 2 new anime series a year, but in Japan it's probably more like 50. The ones that end up being liscensed are usually the hits that the feel can be marketed well in America.

If you don't like this particular series, you can always look for something else, for instance:

Rurouni Kenshin: Follows the exploits of a Rurouni (wandering samurai), who has vowed never to kill again, in hopes of escaping his past as the "hitokiri battousai" (japan's most skilled assassin).

hikaru no go:
About a 12-year old boy who meets the spirit of a long dead "Go" instructor, who teaches him the game.

hajime no ippo: About a timid highschooler who decides to become a pro-boxer, after being saved from a group of bullies, by one.

Blood+: A tv version of "Blood: The Last Vampire", about a high-school girl with no memory of her past interesting past.

Haibane Renmei: Follows a girl name Rakka who wakes from a dream to find herself in the company of others who bear wings on their backs and halos on their heads.

Read or Die OVA: Follows the exploits of Yomiko Readman a.k.a. "The Paper", a "Paper Master" and an agent of the "Royal British Library". She's sent on a new mission which could decide the fate of the world.

Read or Die TV: About 3 Sisters who are "Paper Masters" and proprietors of the "Three Sisters Detective Agency".

.hack: A number of short series, that center around a fictional MMORPG called "The World".

Also tons of random sci-fi/space/mecha series, various "Guy-living with a bunch of women" comedies, sports series (football, soccer, basketball) - not to mention all the Shojou (girls-type) series.

I think you meant subbed - and it's also a matter of personal taste. I'd much rather watch the subs, but I've seen much worse dubs. The voice acting wasn't incredible, but far from horrible (not like One Piece). A number of the actors did a good job with the japanese words - which, mind you, they gave more of an effort to keep in this dub.

It doesn't exactly stay that way for long. Regardless it's just a fun show, not any great work of art.

There have been some good shows in the past few years, however.

That reminds me, when I first started watching Bleach, I only got to episode 6 or 7 and then stopped watching in favor of Naruto and One Piece. Some months later I started watching Bleach again and pretty much marathoned the rest of the episodes. Once the Soul Society arc starts... it gets a little hard to stop watching.

Im not looking for a "great work of art", just a good story and charecters I care about...

I honestly dont care anymore about teenagers fighting deamons... Or teenagers fighting, period

Although I did like Eureka Seven, but CN has since changed its schedule to where I cant watch it

Do you only watch the anime shown on CN or do you download subbed anime as well?

I downloaded all of GITS, Inital-D, Cowboy Beebop, and all the Macross stuff...

I just dont have any interest in the kiddy kind of Anime.

Its not the voice acting that I dont like either, its the general plot lines and animation style.

Bleach is just fun, although not the kind of show I really like.

Eureka 7 is pretty good.

GIST is phenomenal, Cowboy Bebop is incredible, I've also enjoyed Last Exile, Rahxephon and a bunch of others. If you're looking for more mature, intelligent shows I can probably suggest a few more but I know some people who are in to anime who could suggest a bunch of recent ones I'm sure.

GITS is the best ever.

It can provoke thought about what makes us human, what defines us as human.

Well you can't really say anime is stuck in a rut right now. You're just not looking hard enough. CN is only bringing over the "kiddy" anime because that's just the really popular ones at the moment. Try downloading some of the series AVATAR-X suggest above or other series like Basilisk and Elfen Lied. If you want a series that's really different try GANTZ.
