So, does anyone have any pictures of what they have done for the mirror controls, that have not swapped in a 05+ interior?

i put the mirror controls right behind the opening for the shift boot. i can feel the mirror controls when i press on the shift boot. if i can't get at the controls i just open up the shift boot and adjust the mirrors -reposition it again to bring it closer if its moved.

I just scored a great deal on a complete swap "kit".. so I will be doing this in a couple weeks.

On the mirror switch, I know once I have the mirrors adjusted I won't touch them again, unless some Jack-hole messes with them on the outside... so I will likely just leave the switch under the console for now. I have Audio plans for the door mounted switch, since I have '05-'07 STi door cards for more speaker clearance.

Great thread... lots of very useful and important info if you take the time to read all 6 pages.

Just bought a "kit" off ebay and should be here Wednesday

Question though, in pictures it looks like there are two different colors of trim - one being silver and the other one a slightly darker grayish color. Is there a difference in color and does the TR bezel come in either color? I've only ever seen a bright silver color for the TR bezels.

Quick question for everyone that used the TR Radio bezel. Does the manual temp assembly bolt to the TR bezel now? Because I don't have any screw hole to mount the heat/air anymore...

Is there a part number for the clips so it can be screwed in and not ghetto tied?

The clips on the back side of the bezel are molded onto the bezel itself. The white "locking" clips used on the upper left/right corners are supplemental pieces, but they still are located by the molded clips.

If you want to do it so that you use the clips, your best bet is to cut off the existing clips as close/flush to the back side of the bezel as you can and then epoxy them in the correct place to mate up with the clip slots on your dash. Will the depth be right? Don't know.

Planning on doing this swap tomorrow... Ordered a console from Millennium Auto a few weeks ago. I was a little disappointed in the quality of some of the parts. There were no cracks or anything like that... But some of the parts seemed to be used pretty hard. The stuff from my 02 WRX are in pretty darn good shape, so I expected similar coming from an 06-07.

Anyways - when I bought the TR radio surround from the dealer, the wear of the shifter area REALLY showed. Plus - the stuff from M.A. didn't includes the mounts that I needed, ash tray insert, etc.

The guys over at GenuineSubaruParts.com hooked me up with a great deal on the stuff that I needed and it should all be here tomorrow.

Pics and other stuff tomorrow.

Good deal. Idk about on the 02's but for my 04, I had to remove the plate under the steering column. Would've saved me a lot of headache if I would've known that before. Enjoy!

Haha... I wish I would've read this as well before. I got the first part of the swap done before I gave up for the night... In all the posts I've read about this swap, nobody went into real details about "removing" the old console... The main console removes quickly with just a few screws... The radio surround piece is a PAIN! You have to remove the cover for under the steering column AND the glove compartment. Both are removed fairly easily, 1 push pin on each side and 2 screws for the drivers side, about 9~ on the glove compartment side.

As Ethan suggested... Removing that plate under the steering column (2 10MM bolts), the plate will drop out of the way and let you screw the new surround in place. I was trying from all angles before I dropped the plate. But gave up and dropped the plate to get it tightened up.

Bought that little 2~ bracket to hold the heater vents in placea and screwed it in place, the installed the vents and secured them in place. Put the new radio brackets on my headunit and popped it in place. I'm missing the clips that are in the radio surround to secure the HVAC controls... So I need to source a part number and order some of them. I've heard most people zip tie them in place, but for a few dollars in clips, I want to do it correctly.

I stopped after that... Up for tomorrow is to swap the ebrake handle, mount the rear bracket and get the rest of the console installed. I have to relocate the shock sensor and get something to shim up the ebrake to make it level.

Unfortunately I got in too much of a rush to take any before pictures... But everyone has seen them before. After shots coming when it's all installed.

On a side note - the 05+ hazard switches are awesome with their little light up area. Maybe the 04 did it too, but my 02 didn't. Not that I use them that often, but it's nice to be able to SEE where they are now.

These are the clips missing from holding the hvac in place. I have them to hold the bottom of the bezel surround in place, but they are missing in the hvac area.

Anyone have a part number on them?

Trimmed the rear brace down and got that installed... The one bolt on the security/immobilizer unit ended up breaking. Doesn't look like that bolt is needed for anything though, so I'll probably just leave it without drilling or tapping it out.

Going to stick that unit up behind the ash tray area then. Then installed the rest of the center console area and secured it all down. I need to shim up the ebrake as mentioned in all of the posts, but for now, it's fine as is.

One question I have... I swapped the 02 ebrake cable from the old handle over to the 05+ handle... And even with that tightened as much as possible, it seems like it barely engages the brake at all... Is there another adjustment someplace or what can I do?

I didn't install the cover for the rado/hvac or shifter area yet. I need to decide what I'm doing for shifter boot first.

Anyone interested in trading me a WRX boot that'll work with my 02 knob in place of the STI surround plate and 05 boot? I like the STI surround, but I think I like it without better.

Still need to source the clips for the hvac controls and then finish everything else off... So far though - it looks GREAT!

For the ebrake cable I ghetto rigged it. Eventually I'd like to get the proper cables, but for now I put in some aluminum spacers I made on a lathe at work. Others have used cable shortening kits.
