Default Megan Racing Track series coilovers

i was looking for fairly inexpensive coilover because i didnt just want springs.

i decided on the track over the street because im building my wrx into a track car.

install was straight forward general instructions were included (no pictures though) but easy to understand. only problems were frozen bolts (65000 miles on the car at the time)
had then on for 3000 miles now for street use i run the dampers on full soft (32 way adj) they are VERY stiff (12kg/mm f - 10kg/mm r)

set up so far supension only the coilovers right now (endlinks and front sway are in the grage rear sway on the way) corners virtually flat.

the car drives great. so far i love my coice in going with the stiffer track series im hoping they help my autox times this summer

now if i can just get the sway bars on (25mm perrin)

.........I'll never understand why people buy the cheapest available product. Here's the deal, I've seen those ripped off cars due to bending out of shape before from hitting the twisties......SCCA and weekend track open days. So they cost you rough $1100, we'll say $1200 with shipping and taxes, just add $1200 to whatever you are going to get next, cause that's probably what will happen if you race alot with them. Or should I say race hard, you take your car to the edge, that will be the weak point in your suspension. However, EXCELLENT choice on the perrin sways.

Scooby South is in his 2nd autox season leading BSP in our region with Megan's and says they work great. Here's what Megans looked like for him at this month's autox. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poQ6RITY4fU

I don't know if you saw MR coilovers get bent up or not, but I find it pretty unlikely.

I've had MR coilovers for 2 1/2 years or about 50k miles and they still ride like they are brand new .... the only wear I have noticed besides dirt is the rubber dust protectors have ripped on them. Daily road conditions are potholes and rough roads. I have also driven across country (NM to NJ) 5 times and hit some seriously big pot holes with out a single problem.

I have some great Megan coilover experience I would like to share. Track Series, along with the "Street Series" on a different type of car. Keep reading...

I recently bought a 2004 STI back in October and previously owned/tracked a 1997 GSX that I installed a set of Megan "Street series" coilovers on.

Following my experience with the GSX...I installed a set of Megan's "track series" (silver/black) on the STI.

Results: I'll start with the Mitsubishi...

GSX: I put 50k+ miles on the "street series" (red/black). Daily driven in New England, they saw 3 winters, many pot holes a few track days and one accident.

Not a single problem. They were firm, but not bouncy. They did well on rough roads; they never produced enough un-comfort for me to complain. They developed very little rust over 3 winters of salt. The collars never seized, and the shock never leaked. They never needed a rebuild and notice no spring sagging or shock degradation. When I parted out the car I sold the set for $650. Overall experience was excellent.

So, of course after I bought the STI...one week of driving around with the "strut clunk" forced me to make a decision that I thought would be error proof. (Not entirely.)

On to the Subaru...

STI: October 2011 to present. The "track series" (silver/black). Daily driven in New England, no winter weather, still many pot holes. No track time as of yet (Late June, expect and update), but lots of over aggressive driving.

They are firm which is ok, I wanted stiff spring rates for Autox and becasue I don't drive the car in the winter, comfort for a few months in the summer is not somthing I'm interested in. They are EXTREMELY bouncy, this Iexpected, BUT it is probably not all related to the coilover, the stock suspension was also bouncy but less noticable. I believe the STI seats are part of the issue, if anything the coilovers magnify how stiff the STI seats actually are making the ride worse than it really is. They are "fustrating" on bumpy roads... but only at slow speeds, for the most part its tolerable. On softer settings 22-32 they can be rather noisy, but quite up significantly between settings 18-21. I'll live with it because the road feel/response is excellent and the control feedback is a big improvement over stock. From what I have seen personally and read online, most of the guys running the track series have had great results.

I recommend the "track series" only to the drivers who occasionally track their STI, but not often enough to justify $1800+ on a suspension setup. For the drivers that only track their STI and can afford to have a *toy* car, then these are not for you. If you can afford a track only car then obviously you can afford some high-end suspension.

They get the job done, just as well as (If not better than) the equivelant BC coilovers, ISC, ect...

If those brands, (for the most part) are "good enough" for the majority, than so are these.

Below is a link to another car part review thread for Megan Coilovers. Alot of pages with many great reviews.
