Ecutek with manuel boost controler?
I was just wondering if this would be a good idea or not? Useing a manuel boost controler along with my Ecutek to hit boost sooner
I'm having a problem with my VF34 where it doesn't really hit full boost until 5000 rpm's and pulls hard to redline. I was going to use the Prodrive boost solienoid but my tuner ( XXTuning ) is having problems with them in the cold causeing the car to surge. So any help would be great, Thanks, Ian

As long as you are tuned for it you will have no problems. Have the tuner make sure there are no closed loop delays and PTFB is not a problem either (though with a VF34 you are unlikely to have PTFB at low rpms anyway).

Hey thanks, but whats a PTFB? And do you think that would help me boost sooner?

PTFB, partial throttle full boost.
with your vf34, you should see full boost way before 5k rpms, more like mid 3k rpm. my vf30 spools to 1 bar (14.7 psi) by 3600~3800 depending on weather ecutek would be a better choise to handle your boost than a mbc. |

Ecutec can achieve this without the use of a boost controller.
After your mixtures have been set to an acceptable (but still very conservative levels) your tuner can now go and maintain the peak boost value all the way to the redline. Plenty of enthusiasts feel the need to spend hundreds of dollars on an electronic or manual boost control system, but could a similar result be achieved with a few keystrokes? There are two changes necessary to raise the boost level. First, the tuner must raise the peak solenoid duty cycle map, and second, change the boost target map. What if I went with the Perrin boost solienoid thing to get better control of my boost? We were going to put in the Prodrive one but my tuner said they get surging in cold weather on WRX's but it's great for the STI's.

But, a MBC will give the most solid boost control and quickest spool up possible. The ECU's boost control is ok, but for the best performance something else should be used. Even interrupt (GM, Perrin, Prodrive) solenoids on the stock ECU don't come close to the response of a MBC. |

I guess I forgot to reply to this thread after geting my car fixed
Well My tuner ( Chris at XXTuning ) put in the Prodrive boost soleniod + a retune and OMG! what a difference! The car is doing what it is supossed to be doing now. I hit full boost at 3600 rpm's instead of 5000 and it stays that way all the way to redline! My car feels soooo much better! My stock boost soenoid was deffinitly my problem. Thanks for the help, Ian |
