SWAP IT. ECS (east coast swappers) Do a little research and check that option out. its alot easier.... otherwise AVO on Rallitek.com makes a good GC8 Turbo setup...

A factory turbo motor is great, but that might not be his style. You could also just build your system for boost like I plan to do. If you do a swap you should be comfortable enough with wiring to cut apart hundreds of wires from two ecus and splice them together acuratly. This is what scared me off from a swap. So next you have to look at the weak points of your engine:
Compression: N/A cars have higher compression than boosted cars. This will limit your boost to probably 5-10 lbs depending on your motor and it's condition. You can turn the boost up w/ a rebuild that includes lower comp pistons and all other weak pts fixed up, see below Engine Management: Manditory. 100 different resons why,,, I recomend Greddy Emanage, blue is good but ultimate blows it out of the water ( twice as much though.) Fuel: This might not be a big issue if your going to run low boost on a stock motor. But evan low boost will be pushing your system to it's limits. Those are the main things as far as the motor is concerned, you also have to think about added drivetrain stress. You will need a heavy duty clutch or just learn to not have your foot in it as much. Also check out the condition of your engine. Basic little tests can tell you alot. Vacuum test, compression test and a wet compression test if need be should tell you the basic state of your engine if you know what to look for. As you may have figured out by now, all subarus are more or less like legos, as a general rule of thumb, anything from anything will fit into anything. Obviously this is an exageration. But you can use turbo system/exhaust/intake parts from a wrx or STi. When you build your engine you can also consider a mutt build, people have put together different head/shortblock combos from different cars depending on what they want out of it. I've got a different engine but I think you've got decent flowing heads and a 2.5 liter bottem end, So I say a re-bore and low comps possibly some valve springs and a balanced crank and your good to go. I think that pretty much covers most of the bases,,,, |
