total timing is being pulled? Stage 2 STi
Based on this log (thanks for the awesome excel work Airboy!) I assume timing is being pulled over about 4800 rpm. Would you recommend I pull timing out of the base map to compensate? The KC is flattened to 6 at any load over 1.45. Also IAM stays pegged at 1.0. This is a map based on the OSECU stage 2 '06 sti map, boost is lowered and peaks at 17.1. Do you mind sharing this map? Your ignition timing is far smoother than what teh OSECU map comes with and I am experiancing a similar issue above but i also have some timing being pulled down low.

Sure:
http://www.userbility.org/sti/stg2-osecu-246.hex You just reminded me, I made a major scaling change to the Advance maps so the load columns would line up with the Base table. Driving it feels smoother too. In addition I modified the Advance maps to have a 2-4-6 degree striping. I left the base timing alone. I've done some preliminary MAF comparisons between this version of the timing and the original... interesting results: I've lost MAF (looking at g/sec) in the midrange and gained in the top end. Needless to say this is a work in progress (at about week 2). Boost is mapped to 16.5 pounds, but actually hits low 17s (still fine with me). good luck, let me know what you find. |

hmm - anything to be worried about?
I'm ready to chalk it up to some mystery tables and move on to fueling but I just want to make sure its not pulling timing due to knock. thanks for the link - I'll watch that thread. Chris |

As said by Airboy, your car is NOT pulling timing at all. Your map calls for 6* of KC and it looks like in your graph that you are running 6* of KC across the entire rev range.

Alright, then just to be over-paranoid: it's generally accepted that the only place this ECU will show the results of pulling timing is in the KC (and IAM) values?
Given that we still don't have all the tables defined, and apparently some guys are reducing base timing to match up with the total timing logs. |

If your logged KC values don't match your map values, then something is wrong. There are several cases where logged total timing won't match up with your total map timing and it's totally normal (ex. high IATs, high coolant temp).

This map runns pretty well on my 06 at 4200 Ft on 91 octane. Ill post a log and overlay.
I will likely have the increase the WGDC though due to only hitting 12-11 PSI from 5k or so on. |

Also do you have a Wideband? I don't have one and would love to know how rich its running. One thing I've noticed is that this map REALLY gets stronger after the 2nd or 3rd day. May be A/F learning since IAM jumps to 1.0 almost right away. |

I can hit 17 downlow but by 5k it drops to 12-11 psi. I have the ERZ type downpipe.
Also this map is either really linear now or my car has lost a great amount of power. It is very hard to tell. I am still looking into a wideband. I have access to a Motec unit but i cant use that for logging i dont think.. |

which map were you running before?
I just finished flattening the Advance map to run 6* everywhere (lowered the base timing map accordingly). Now I'm having some strange effects. After 3 revisions of watching for KC to be pulled, lowering the base maps in the right cells, and then reflashing, rinse, repeat - I'm still having KC reduced from the same load/rpm sites. Mostly between 3000 and 4000 rpm and mostly between the .8 to 1.6 load sites. It's not dramatic (1 to 2* usually) and IAM is not effected, but it's annoying. I can't seem to get a happy log result in that range. Everywhere else it's great. BTW, what's your peak MAF (g/sec) on this map? Mine is about 265 g/sec in 4th gear. and yeah, I need a Wideband too. |

My car has started to feel very odd with this map and I have since made a slight revision to the ignition correction tables.
The power is either very flat/linear or i have a lost a ton of HP. I have no knock issues to speak of when logging from 2500-6800 but i can only get a max of 225 g/sec in 4th gear. It almost feels as if its far to rich for the ignition timing that its running. I am running about 2-3 degrees less up top than with the default OSECU stg 2. I will be getting wideband here shortly or atleast doing some runs with wideband on the 23rd. Here is a 4th gear log with about 30 minutes on your original map. http://www.imperial.org/~bling/ben/e...604_222357.csv This is in SLC at ~4200 ft above sea level. Quote:

I'm tweaking the ignition tables now too, and I think I just realized why the same rpm/load sites are pulling KC. Apparently the fine correction values are not cleared out during a reflash:
http://www.enginuity.org/viewtopic.php?t=1952 I'm up to version 7 and I expect to hit at least version 10 before I'm happy with the timing. I'm going to try ecuexplorer's ECU reset so I don't have to yank the negative battery lead everytime. I'll repost my map when I'm happy with it - this time it will have a LOT less timing in the base map. Your logs looked fine BTW. |
