HELP! Electrical Problems...
My car died today. I was just finished going on a
short errand and the stereo shut off, then the wipers
were moving REALLY slow, then the car started idling
wierd and died. I think it's either the alternator or
the battery. The battery has been having problems,
and the battery light lit up last night as I was
coming home. At this point I think it's the battery,
but how do I check? If that's not the case, how do I
check the alternator to see if it's functioning
properly? I've got to jump it now because the car
isn't starting on it's own power, so I'm wondering if
I'll get an accurate reading from a voltmeter. What
else can I do? HELP! TIA!

What does the voltmeter say the voltage of the battery is while the car is off? It should be at least 12 volts if it's good.
Take the same reading while the car is running to see if the alternator is providing current.

I've had four Subaru's, and I've had the same problem once with each and every one of them. It's your alternator- you may want to replace the battery anyway, as the stock battery is rather small (cold cranking amps and reserve capacity-wise that is). I just did this with my 2000 RS a few months back.
