Question clutch to floor?

i have a 2002 wrx with a stick. its my 2nd car with a stick but i havent driven stick for over 2 years and it was only for a month. i dont know much about the engage point. it seems to be towards the middle for my car. i was wondering if i have to shove the pedal to the floor to shift gears? or can i push it just past the engage point and do it that way? i dont want to damage it, so im asking to be safe. also, i cant seem to get that "smooth" shift...i get this tiny jolt when i release the clutch. i dont dump it...i do it gently and i was wondering if thats something im doing wrong too. thanks for any help guys.

Push that clutch to the floor. Every time! In fact sometimes twice if you want to try double clutching.

You'll get better at smooth shifts with time and practice. It helps to give a tiny amount of throttle as you let the clutch pedal up so the engine speed is what it needs to be in the new gear.

And don't "dump" the clutch unless you absolutely have to. It's hard on the driveline, especially on AWD cars.

To make you feel better, the clutches in these cars tend to grab pretty well (is grab the right word? oh well), resulting in the jerkyness. You'll adapt and be able to shift smoothly with time.

If you can match your revs good enough you only need to touch the clutch when you 1st start from a stop
