Most of the local parades explicitly prohibits cars from doing "dangerous" manurers to prevent stuff like this from happening...

It's just too bad considering it is a charity event...

That looked like a Pro Mod car...like 1600+ hp car with people right there? The event planner should be shot.

I've seen several stories on it in the news. Apparently, this event has been going on for years with no problems and they seem very reluctant to point fingers because they don't want it to be the end for this charity event. Apparently there were barriers, but they didn't extend far enough. I'm curious to know what caused the dragster to go out of control.

1600+ hp, no traction, heavy right foot for long burnout...It wouldn't take much more than a spot of loose gravel, water, oil, etc to make it lose control like that.

So it would be just momentum keeping the drag car going that far? I assume they driver would have let off the gas. Do those things have any brakes?

Could've been a lift-off thing too amarpauld and Picard...and yes they have brakes, but due to the size of the wheels (15") the rotors and calipers aren't that large, and some classes of cars (Funny Car/Dragsters) have hand brakes, not foot. Drag cars aren't really meant to stop quickly unfortunately.
