I made a diagram of how the camber bolt works since it seems to come up so often and didn't see anything similar in my 30 seconds of browsing. Maybe you want to edit it into a post somewhere?

I have been doing alignments over 4 years on all of my vehicles in my driveway. I use 2 4 foot levels, 4 bungee cords (to attach levels to the wheels) a tape measure and a bit of common sense.
I can do an alignment better than any laser guided setup. My steering is tight and I have nearly zero tire wear. |

Coilover, does this apply?
I get the point that we can do the 3 major points of wheel alignment, but does anyone have a trick for corner-balancing a coilover setup, or should I just drop the $200 for that and a laser alignment? I won't be changing ride height, I just want good traction and even wear (and for my transmission to suffer as little as possible from the stiffness).

When is alignment needed determines, I mean besides having the dealer put it on the "alignment machine" and making measurements?
If the tire wear is uniform and the car tracks well on a level paved street/highway then no alignment is needed. Is this a sufficient test for alignment need? Of course seeing the tires worn out due to alignment problems is costly too... but in my case my Forester has abouot 40K miles and I've replaced the tires. The original tires do not show uneven wear. |
