Default Special Licenses For Supercars

http://www.coolsupercars.com/special...for-supercars/

People are starting to question whether drivers of supercars really know how to properly drive their expensive and flashy vehicles. It has been a year full of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and many other supercar accidents everywhere around the world. Between famous boxers and actors it seems that no one has any idea on what is needed to drive these powerful vehicles. Some of the supercar manufacturers like, Lamborghini, Porsche,, Ferrari, Caterham, and Lotus, are trying their best to teach their customers how to handle their vehicles. But the IAM Motoring Trust, a charity connected to the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said that teaching them isn’t enough, but that they should earn and obtain a special license and pass an advanced test.
Kevin Delaney, its head of road safety, said: “We have a basic form of graduated licences for motorbikes, there should be one for cars too. “The licence should be linked to the horsepower a car produces in proportion to its weight. Drivers would have to train first to make sure they could handle the extra power.”
He said the training would concentrate not only on car handling but also on the “psychological difficulties” of experiencing an adrenaline rush when driving a powerful vehicle. “If you it’s for one reason, speed. Drivers need to be trained to deal with it,” Mr Delaney said.
Other motoring groups said any extra training should remain voluntary. The RAC Foundation, where Mr Delaney used to be traffic and road safety manager, said all drivers should take training throughout their motoring lives. Sheila Rainger, a spokeswoman for the foundation, said: “This should be something motorists choose to do themselves out of pride in their skills, not a burden imposed upon them by legislation.”
With the rules and regulations that everyone has to go through it will most likely be something that we will have to endure. But I don’t have any arguments for it. After all people need to learn to respect their vehicles before they drive it. That will ensure that they do their best to not crash it!

sounds like a great idea.. but i doubt it will get far trying to make it law... Most of the people making the rules are the ones in a position or know others in a position to afford these cars.. Doubt they would want to deal to be honest..i could be wrong though...

Actually I wish driving license was setup like GT3. All cars should be assigned a class and you must have that class license to purchase AND drive that car. That, of course, assumes the training is worth a crap. This would help, IMO, the morons driving SUVs, rear wheel drive vehicles, sports cars, etc. My .02.

Although it should, this will never happen. These people dont take pride in their driving ability. Mainly because they dont have any driving ability, all they have is what they perceive to be ability. So in essence, you have a bunch of rich people who do not like to follow instructions anyway buying these supercars. Good luck getting them to take a class.

There should not only be special supercar licenses, but there should also be a special SUV license for anyone that "needs" to drive one.

I'd be down for it if it also meant we could use more of the cars potential. Like allowing said cars with properly licensed drivers to go xx mph over the posted speed limit.

If that came to fruition, that might be the begining of the end of GM as we know it..

Should be required for everyone on the road. Might do some good.

Screw supercars, we need more training for ANY car, at least in the U.S.

I'm a fan of staged licensing also, in germany/Europe I think they do it by weight, going by power/weight ratio seems like a pretty good idea also. I personally think that some of the best legislation would be to do a federal law saying licenses have to be renewed every x years with a mandatory 2+ hours of training and another test, it would cost more but save in the long run with the cost of insurance/crashes.

Also note that the IAM who is proposing the test is the same IAM who runs the current (voluntary) advanced driving test scheme in the UK. Self-interest much?

IMHO it's just regulating a non-existent problem.

While I knew it was in the UK, I also think this is a needed thing here in the U.S. as I'd be more than happy to earn my licenses for higher-end powered cars. I also think SUV's more than the mini-utes that are car-based (Forester, CR-V) should require specialized SUV driver training.

The speed limits based on vehicle type or give speed limit grades 65mph A-grade perhaps for open roads meaning those that can go faster can or in cities and such it trims it back for all vehicles no faster than X speed. Problem is most people are too stupid to learn anything new. Besides, wouldn't want to be an officer trying to police that system.
