Thank you for posting this. Maybe some of the members who were acting in a negative manner will be responsible enough apologize to you, either here or offline.

It takes a big person to admit he/she is wrong. Even bigger person to admit it in a post for all to read.

Just my two moderator cents...

jds, no problem. One thing, though, with regards to your warranty. IF there are signs of what the dealer or SOA considers "abuse" and IF your dealer wants to be a jerk, they most certainly can turn you away on a warranty claim. I'm not saying it WILL happen, I'm just saying it could.

For example, if you break a 2nd gear synchro with only 25K miles on your car, it is under warranty coverage. However, if they see that your clutch is completely worn and the flywheel is blued from the heat, they can turn your warranty claim down due to "abusive driving" or whatever they choose to call it. Warranties are only as good as your dealer/SOA want them to be. Something to think about.

Bravo, to you for the apology above. Like Kastle said, it takes a big person to admit it in a public place.

good show. no harm done, everyone gets a little crazy now and then.

anyway, trent is right. when you've worked on a few trannies you can see some clues to abuse/carelessness that won't be there if the driver is truly innocent and some sort of manufacturing defect causes a failure.

in fact, this BBS is a good place to find people that have advise or even contacts at SOA when something goes wrong that you don't feel responsible for and you aren't getting anywhere with the dealer.

but you're mistaken if you think you can convince or bully a dealer (and SOA) into repairing an obviously abused transmission. they won't fall for it. the warranty is not there for covering abuse. when people make fradulent warranty claims, they hurt all the other consumers because the warranty isn't free-- it's costs are covered by you and everyone else that buys a subaru or subaru parts.
