Default 2.0 vs 2.2 vs 2.5 ?

as far as long term goals go, im wondering what to do with my WRX 2.0...

here is what i was thinking:

keep the stock 2.0 and headwork with just bolt ons / turbo upgrade.

build the 2.0 motor to a 2.2 + headwork and turbo upgrade..

JDM EJ207 with bolt ons / turbo upgrade..

or an STi 2.5l block

i cant really deicide lol, i kind of liked the idea of a built 2.0 to a 2.2, but it seems like a 2.5 would be better... idk

i want something thats rev happy but has good spool up and a good torque powerband, so i was leaning towards the 2.2 a little buttttt its hard to say as i dont have much experience with subaru motors

the ej207 is rather rev happy i hear... Ever given thought to building one of those up even more? Out of the box they are spinning to 8500 rpms.. I'm sure with the right parts in there, 9K or more would be do-able..

Something about the rod ratio also aparently makes it the smoothest engine to spin of the bunch of them... I'm sure an ej207 owner can swing in to comment..

Sounds like you are asking to have your cake and eat it too though...

closest thing to rev happy and good torque curve (dependent on other mods) available in subaru stock dimensions is the EJ20 and EJ22 (same rod ratio but bigger bore).

personally I would run any of them as I'm dissatisfied will all of them, so I made my own shortblock

the 205 and 207 have the same rod ratio which is longer than the 255 and 257...this mearly shifts the torque curve to the right in the powerband...causes more lag compared to a same displacement short rod ratio motor but will make more top end power...
I took the best of both worlds...displacement of the 257 (almost) with a longer rod ratio than the EJ20...a good bit longer too
