![]() Need a little info please...
I'm looking to source some new CV parts for my 2004 STi axles. I have the earlier female inner CV - DOJ87. The DOJ (double offset joint) with inner race, ball and cage design is a lot stronger than a tripod joint that one might find in an aftermarket "compatible axle" If you have the following info for 2004 STi, that would be awesome! Feel free to post other years wrx/sti info here too so we can figure out compatibility between years. ie it may be possible for wrx and 04 sti to switch to 5 x 114.3 simply by swapping the outer CV and hubs/discs instead of replacing the whole axle assembly. I found a company that can supply the assemblies except I need a spline count. It should be around $30-$40 or so for each joint, which would make the cost of replacing a failed axle the same price or cheaper than replacing with an inferior aftermarket axle or "remanufactured" which involves grinding out the race and installing larger balls, making the race inherently weaker. If someone has upgraded their axle bars to DSS axles and have their old axle bar hanging around, if you could count the splines. DSS's site says it varies from different year STis. So onto the necessary info- 1. spline count to hub - I think may be 27 if someone could confirm 2. " axle bar into outer CV 3. " axle bar into inner CV 4. spline count on diff stub into inner CV - I think may be 25 if someone could confirm (or on male inner CV for later wrx or sti) thanks in advance! ![]()

![]() I never did find out the answers. I ended up just buying some used (early) 04 STi axles.
In retrospect, what I thought was a bad cv joint was really a bad wheel bearing though. ![]() It wasn't apparent until I took the axle nut off and got the knuckle out. Then it was obvious that the wheel bearing was shot. (there was no back and forth play in the wheel when it was all bolted up) |

![]() Necro for great justice
Investigating what axle-wise is needed to put 5*114 front hubs on a car with an 04sti gearbox Thankfully the rears are simple. |

![]() I have a cv axle table here. It isn't complete as this info is hard to come by.
https://b.obsdian.com/2021/01/15/res...axle-database/ Also, aftermarket axles can have completely different shaft spline counts. |
