Default WTB: Super cheap beater w/ AWD & manual trans

I'm looking for an AWD car with a manual trans for absolute bottom dollar. Can be banged up, totalled/salvage title, stripped out, vandalized, whatever. As long as it runs and drives I'm interested. I'm thinking something like an early Impreza or Legacy that's been rear ended and stripped out for $400, something like that. The closer to Portland the better, but I'm willing to take a drive for the right car. If the price is right I may consider a fwd, 4x4 (ie cars with transfer cases), auto trans, etc. but it has to be a super smokin' deal to consider those options. Thanks gang, let me know if you've got any deals or know of some!

Thanks for the private messages/tips so far guys. I checked out a local car today but it was a little *too* wrecked. Wrecked is ok, this one had the LF strut pushed backwards a couple inches, too much for me for this project. Everything else was right, it ran, had a 2.2 with low miles on it, 5MT, interior/exterior was pretty nasty but that's ok since it's coming out anyway.

Keep them coming, I appreciate the help. I'll be sure to let everybody in on the secret build when the time is right. Waaait for it............

waaaaaaait for it.....

Back from vacation and I'm still on the hunt. Anything up to a grand will be considered, and not-running stuff will be considered if the price is right. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip Gary, I think I'll pass. I could deal with an auto trans on a newer Legacy/Impreza, but those old autos aren't going to work for the race I'm entering.

Oh yeah, this car will be used as a race car if that gives anybody any more inclination to help out. Subaru FTW!

I've got a vehicle for sale. Its kinda AWD, more like 4WD. Its got a 5 Speed manual. Its a two door. But its a Jeep Cherokee, for only $900.00. It runs great too. Just a little bit cold blooded in the morning. But its no Subaru.

Thanks for the tip Ryan, but I don't think my girlfriend would forgive me if I sent her racing with a Cherokee's center of gravity.

How about this:

Cheap, 4wd, needs work, but it's not that hard to replace a head gasket

Wow, the Brat is looking pretty durn rough for $400, looks like a really expensive yard car. Those usually go for <$100 where I come from.

Yup, thanks for the details, I'll have to pass.

I think we found the perfect car. A '95 Impreza Outback with some minor body damage on one side and some electrical problem that keeps burning out ignition coils. Drove it onto the trailer for $300! It's even a 5 speed. Time to start wearing out the search engine trying to find a pinout and see if anybody else has had the same problem and found the culprit.

Thanks for everybody's help.
