I'm not sure how you got the impression I didn't like you very much that day at Pocono. Uh, hate to disappoint you, but I've never liked you. It wasn't just that day I didn't like you.

I'm deffinitly intrested. Anyone have an approximate on the amount of money spent on food, gas, lodging for the weekend?

I am kind of confused on where/how the charity part comes in.
The site also seems to be down.

Everybody (just about) who participates in the drive collects money from family/work/friends. This money they collect is 100% for the charity. In theory we should be stopping by major/semi-major cities and in these cities we should have a NASIOC meet with local people from the city. idealy the "locals" have also collected money to be donated towards the charity. In the end all this money collected and donated to the charity.

In the past 2 years we have not really met up with many "locals" at the local meets. This was mainly due to the fact that meets (very many) were not arranged. Once the rough route has been planned if someone (multiple people?) could setup meets that would be great.

Therefore each person who participates in the drive is pays for their own gas money, hotel money, & food money. I know for the past 4 years I have NOT driven and just rode in various cars. I am pretty sure when doing this I end up spending about $200-250 including hotels. Perhaps someone who has driven this could chime in on gas costs in the past. Also anyone that has a different opinion on "price" for the drive please chime in.

I only did 2 days of the 3 days total, but this is how much I spent:

Supplies:
CB Radio: $26
Spare RE92 on steely: $50
Sleeping Bag: $40

Regular gas: $36 per tank, 3 fillups, $108 total. This was when I had a 2.5i.
Tolls: $4 Turnpike, $1.50 Parkway

Motel in Cooperstown: $70, split among 3 individuals.

Applebee's dinner, day 1: $16 for a blooming onion and a drink
Cooperstown breakfast: $6 for scrambled egg sandwich and coffee
Truckstop lunch: $4 for a hoagie and soda

Look on cops' faces as 30+ Subaru's fly by the center of town slightly faster than the posted limit: Priceless

^^ Hey Pete how you doing? I spend quite a bit more because of the drive, but it is well worth it.

Priceless just like you say.

Mike Syracuse is a good area in CNY to head to. The scooby population is prob the greatest there in CNY and could be able to get together for breakfast on Saturday AM.

+ there are some great roads en route from here to there if you like to avoid the highway scene for a bit. I highly recommend driving through the windmills at Fenner, NY!!! If there is alot of snow there this year, the snow walls will be close to 20 ft. high!!!

No Canada on this trip? No passport is needed until June for land crossings.

I am down for some Dino in Syracuse! That would be great!

We could hit Fenner on the way out Saturday morning.

I know of a great hotel that we can hit in Syracuse if you need one. Its the place where me, Brian and Andy all stayed 2 years ago when we met up wtih you guys on 90.

Mike just let me know if you need any help setting stuff up in Syracuse. i know the area quite well.

Also organizing a meet could be pretty easy just by posting something up in their thread.

Wouldn't the lunch meet for Dino be better considering there are how many people going? If I remember correctly I'd wait for an hour or two with a group of 4. And considering someone mentioned 30 subies in a previous post, lunchtime might be a better bet for dinosaur

Hmm cooperstown to cuse to lake george via backroads could be quite a haul.

My guess would be a late arrival in cuse fri night and then breakfast there sat morning then head up toward the dacks to get to lg by sat evening. I have a very good italian resturant in lg where we could probably get a private room and a price fixed menu for sat night if you guys were interested.

That sounds good. It might be difficult to do Cooperstown to LG via Syracuse like Mike said, but that would be in true Classic 48 hrs form!

I'm just going to follow the car in front of me, so where ever we end up is fine with me.

That's what usually winds up happening for most of us, especially if we get the wet roads that wind up covering our lights as previously mentioned.

Just to clairify things:

Before there was talks about the Lake Placid area and now you are talking about the Lake George area is this correct?

Also for what it's worth: a year ago the Saab Owners Convention was held in Lake George and when I concidered going to this I started looking at hotels and the cost was INSANE like $200/night was the cheapest. And this was during the summer. So Lake George might increase the cost of hotels buy a little bit.

I will try again tonight to contact some hotels in the Lake Placid area. Mostly because I had left message at a few places last thursday and a follow-up call won't take that much time. If we end up going to Lake George then perhaps myself or someone else can call around in that area?

Sonny-

You will be missed on the trip! Your ER stories are part of the high lights each year, plus you always have a "juicy" one during a long stretch to help keep us all awake.

Trenton-
Sorry to hear about the bike accident, and here's hoping the recovery goes smoothly. Don't rush it - you want to make sure everything heals the right way.

Syracuse - wasn't that part of one of the first 48hrs runs? Including the garbage plate near Rochester?

Lake george is a summer resort town. Most hotels are closed or very very cheap in the winter. We also have a local up there Dr G who runs the town and will get us the hookup. Same for a dinner party there on sat night.

I was shying away from lake placid due to the skiier premium.

Yup. Also sonny will send us some transcripts and we'll have a reading via cb during the trip.
