Default 2016 Starlink Stereo in a 2015 WRX

Would a 2016 WRX stereo fit in a 2015 WRX? I don't care about the sound quality. I know the mounting points are different on top but I'm not sure about the bottom. Also if it does fit would the back up cam plug right in? Thank you in advanced!

I've looked at photos of both and it seems as though the connections are mostly the same. You would have to unscrew your climate control knobs from the carbon fiber center stack surround and locate a gloss back climate control surround (2016+). Purchase a starlink hu and screw onto the surround.

As far as connections are concerned...thats about as far as I got.

I may be tempted to take my wife's 16 Forester Starlink radio out and actually connect it into my 2015 to see if it works.

the original poster also didnt specify which radio is in the 15 wrx, just asked if the starlink one would fit. can it fit?? probably, will it be a easy swap?? nope. regular wrx 15 model, had a completely different plug set up. they need to use a metra 70-7552 dor the main connectors, the 2016 starlink unit uses the 70-1761 adaptor. completely different between the 2.

so a simple swap it is not. COULD it be done??? of course it could. but not easily for the average joe/jane

Starlink is clever. But it's not an exciting sound system if that's what you want.

Sorry I didn't specify. I have the 2015 base stereo. The 2016 Starlink would fit into the car like you said but I would have to deal with the different wiring setup. I have notified the seller of the 2016 Starlink radio and let him know it would not fit. He insisted it would fit into my car. Thank you for answering my question.

ohhhhh it would "fit" yes, but you would be buying the upper dash pieces for the vents also, since the 15 and 16 have different ones, but then you need to convert all the wiring around, is it doable?? sure it is. but probably not worth the time effort and money. and honestly the starlink 6.2 radio is horrid...

your best bet is to go aftermarket. way more options available and more power

There's no reason to do this. You'd be better off buying an aftermarket Pioneer unit.

A double din aftermarket unit that handles Carplay and/or Android Auto is the way to go, as others have noted.

So, can we recap this.
Will the 2016 Starlink radio work in a HK/Navigation equipped, Starlink 2015 WRX/STI?

im not sure why anyone would WANT to put the 6.2 starlink radio in.............. it is terrible.

dont forget about having to get new dash pieces either. the vent assemblies are different.

if your talking about the 7 inch starlink version it should work....as long as the factory radio in the 2015 has the same harnesses.

what is that you are trying to gain by the swap? im curious

Higher resolution screen, better touchscreen response time, ability to rewind/playback live radio, OE factory look. I'm in my mid 30s and im sick of aftermarket head-units and the workaround to get them to work.

are you sure you have a Starlink radio in the 2015 wrx? from what i see the starlink radio was never in a 2015 wrx...... i see the HK version with the Fujitsu Ten factory unit, but it doesnt do starlink

and the HK radio in the 2015, well it looks way more aftermarket than even my own car does with an aftermarket in it....

from the sales manual on a 2015:

"Audio System available:
1-6-speaker single-CD audio system with HD Radio® with iTunes® tagging capability, SiriusXM® Satellite
Radio,4
USB port/iPod® control, Bluetooth® audio streaming and hands-free phone connectivity, and
3.5-mm auxiliary jack

2-Single-CD premium audio system with 9 Harman Kardon speakers, including subwoofer, 440-watt Harman
Kardon amplifier, HD Radio® with iTunes® tagging capability, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio,4
USB port/iPod® control, Bluetooth® audio streaming and hands-free phone connectivity, and 3.5-mm auxiliary jack"

I'm 99.999% sure I see a Subaru Starlink splash page on the screen when the unit turns on.

weird because it seems the Impreza had it in 2015 but not the wrx.... who knows maybe the dealer did a swap or something.

heating controls section is the same, just need the vent assembly then.

ive looked at the 16 and 15 wiring of the 28 pin plug, only thing i see missing on the 15 is the Ebrrake wire, but would be easy to adapt. make sure the 2016 starlink radio is the 7 inch though....the 6.2 sucks and doesnt have gps in it anyway.

good luck with the swap

Thanks. The radio in my car is the older style 6.2" radio with navigation that was also in the 2015 Forester and BRZ.

My wife has a '16 Forester XT with the newer Starlink 7" radio. Maybe I'll just pull both and see if it works in my car. That will seal the deal if I order the newer radio for my car.

Were you able to see if the Starlink 7" would work for the 15's?
