Default Auto tech employment?

hey guys..

something i'm really wanting to get into is being a tech. I did the job i didn't really want to do for the last 5 years so now it's time for me get into the thing i feel very passionate about. So upon my return home i'm looking at getting into probably UTI they have a military tuition reduction program. ( cheap is for me!) But one thing i was wondering on the flip side is getting employed after completion. Anyone know how the job market is for techs? A lot of opportunities out there? Not really trying to get a hand out if that's what anyone is thinking. I'm simply trying to get some research done. And who else to grovel at the feet of then the subie fam! I know there's a few guys here that are techs and / or have attend tech schools in Arizona. Anyone have any experience with UTI ? If i remember correctly whiteout06 went there i don't know if he's still on here or not. But anywho, if anyone has any suggestions/recommendations for schooling (i.e. going general tech, or maker specific?) Well thanks guys in advance for any feedback i receive. Oh and for my getting outta alaska... i'm waiting on my packet to come back from the review board in madigan and i'll be able to choose my ETS date. It will be anywhere from 30-90 days...i'll give you one guess which one it will be haha.

and also there's one more addition to the subie family. she was born on 22DEC07 and her name is Alexa Sky Lara.. w00t

Hey first off congrats on the new addition and second the market for techs is perty big especially if your willing to move to where the work is. Ive gone to UTI and i loved every min of it. you might here from people that is just sucks and you learn nothing from it but then it depends on you if you really want to learn anything from it then you will. personally i would take the ford fact program after your core training. and if you start to work for ford for a little bit and get your ase youll become a master tech in not time. and everyone at UTI in there employment dep will help you as much as you want for as long as you want there help and i mean even after 5+ years down the road they will help they helped me and im working with nissan as a tech at there proving grounds out in Maricopa. so all in the end its up to you its just my .02

And again congrats on the new addition.

Every OEM I work with mentions a huge need for good techs. I don't have specific info, like which regions are light, but even if I did it would probably be a different story by the time you graduate. Suffice to say, it's a job that will be in demand for a long time. Especially if you're quick, do good work and reliable.

+1 for making UTI what you want of it. I graduated there. Didn't take full advantage, but ended up running a shop anyways. But I know a pretty large handful of people that graduated from UTI and work at a crappy job like at a bank, or JLube, etc.
