Question What should I do about this scratch?

Took the car to a detailer last saturday to have it clay bar-ed and sealed so it doesn't get punished by the rest of the winter (didn't do it myself as it was 5 degrees outside and I don't have a driveway @ my apartment), and I didn't notice this until the following morning. I took 2 pics of the car before i took it in, 1 front 1 back, just to compare the before and after. i didn't know i'd be using these to prove damage. the original pictures i still have on my camera: they were taken at 3264x2448. the before pic isn't shrunk at all, it's just cropped.

This looks like it's about an inch or 1.5" long, but i don't see any black to it, so i don't think it's down to the plastic. it may just be down to the paint; it's hard for me to tell. is it possible to buff this out? what should i do to see what the detailer can do about this?

That doesn't look like it would buff out. I would take it back up to the detailer ASAP though. Good luck. I hope they don't give you a hassle.

There's also some drops of wet stuff they used that froze on the carpet of my trunk's interior. I'm less concerned about that but it makes me think they opened the trunk and something dripped while they were doing the detailing.

Depending on how they handle this situation, I don't know if I would take my car back to that place.

They will be dicks about it, so just get ready to argue and not get anywhere. I've had this happen before....do you have any way to PROVE they did it? It's really tough to leave, then come back and argue your point (to them, it could have happened any time from when you left, to when you returned).

Good luck though

It looks pretty deep in the picture. It looks like it's down to the primer, but it's kinda hard to tell in the pic. Does it catch your fingernail?? If so, it will need touched up.

it does catch my fingernail when i run over it. how much would i expect to pay to have something like this touched up? i'd like to have an idea so i know if estimates i get are good or bad. i know a brand new spoiler would cost $190 prepainted from subaru.

are you sure its $190 ? The last time I checked, they were $300+

but anyway, this is why I like to watch people do anything to my car when I let them do anything at all. But since you already left, I don't think you have any chance of getting them to own up to it. The scratch really doesn't seem that annoying anyway. But if you must, you can purchase a little touch-up paint bottle specifically for your paint and hide it.

Personally I would want my money back.. Its gonna be tuff cause they are gonna deny it. As far as you getting a new wing its not that bad at all bro really. I would get some touch up and see what you can do with it. It sucks I know but honestly doesnt look bad at all. Good Luck

that sucks, the detailer most likely wont take responsibility for it, maybe you can find some one who can try wet sanding it for you, or do it yourself if you know how
