Default The Radar Trap Location Thread

Right, so I was glancing on the forums today and realized how awesome it would be to have a thread on where to find common speed traps throughout the lower mainland. I don't condone excessive speeding and I will neither conform nor deny whether or not I speed. Having said that though, I completely disagree with the concept of speed traps and how the police use it as a cash grab more than an attempt to enhance public safety. If you don't believe me go wikipedia speed trap and you'll see how they're currently dealing with speed traps in the US and more specifically in California.

So in no particular order here are the ones I can name off If anyone else has any more feel free to post them.

Just off the Pattullo Bridge, by the Surrey exit, there is almost always a speed trap hiding in the bushes there catching people in both directions

lately the westvan popo have been setting up the radar on hwy1 eastbound at the TaylorWay overpass.
they also like to hide in the shadows of the trees at the intersection of Park Drive and Southborough Drive in the britishproperties.
and of course the school zones during school hours

as you can see, i don't venture very far from home

Grandview Highway in East Vancouver, between Rupert and Renfrew. I've seen them hiding out catching westbound speeders just before the McDonald's restaurant is. Usually on a Sunday morning. Haven't seen them there in a few months.

Westbound highway 1, just after the Grandview Highway exit at the edge of Burnaby, again on Sunday mornings.

LaterZ!

Eastbound Hastings St. after Kensington Ave. there is always a laser gun radar/rider at your passanger side hidding in the Esso gas stationin North Burnaby.

P.S: Laser pointing to traffic heading to west. A nice HOV ahead at Eastbound Hastings St. after Holdom is waiting for you.

SW Marine at UBC has several spots:
Eastbound at the lookout (uncommon)
41st and SW Marine Eastbound (almost every sunny day)
Westbound at the information center (only once or twice)

Also:
-SW Marine and Yukon, Westbound (very, very common)
-Once there was a speedtrap on the Stanley Park causeway Southbound: Every 3rd person was getting a ticket because nobody goes 50 km/h there.

Just wondering, has anyone encountered a speed trap at night before?

I haven't passed by any speed traps at night. Most of the times, I've seen them on bright sunny days.

Also, the traps that I listed above, I've only seen them on Sundays in the morning.

Yep.
Location: 6) Eastbound SE Marine Drive after Marine way turnoff before Boundary Rd traffice light in Vancouver.

Detail: Mostly likely Sat night, around 8~9 pm. If you heading to east on SE Marine Drive, driving straight ( High rise apartments on passanger side), sometimes you will see there is a "Speed Indicator Panel" on your right, normally drivers will slow down to see how fast they drive, then they will speed up after that Panel, if you speed up after the panel, then you are trapped. Why? A nice laser rider just 2 blocks in front. And again, a nice HOV before the Boundary Rd traffic is waiting for you.

Not sure if they still do it, but when i worked around there, the cops ALWAYS got a few people a day westbound on HWY 1, just past the Caulfield exit.

Subaru Stars

both directions on the Barnett Hwy. they nail you either way, if your coming out of port moody, there is one always at the marina, and if your heading west (towards burnaby) sometimes on just before the sfu turn off (right past kask bro's cement company)
Westbound in north van between Lynn Valley on-ramp and Lonsdale, they sometimes point both directions.

I don't seem to see these ones?
Vancouver - East Bound
SE Marine Dr, just before Elliott (I think it's Nanaimo) - within the last month
SE Marine Dr & Jellicoe (light before Kerr) - last year
Vancouver - West Bound
SE Marine Dr, just before Elliott (back alley) - within the last month
SE Marine Dr & Victoria - within the last month
Richmond - North Bound
No 5 Rd, just pass Westminster Hwy and Sports Town (I think it's McNeely Dr) - last year

Delta - North/South Bound
South of Massey Tunnel, in the count flow lane - this year

Less frequent spot
Richmond - East Bound
Cambie Rd, just pass Garden City Rd (I think it's around Stolberg St, The Oaks) - early last year, maybe even 2006

Unknown if they still use them
Richmond - East Bound
East-West Connector, just pass No 8 Rd, in between the barriers, or at No 8 Rd
Off-ramp to New West, right under On-ramp to Alex Fraser South Bound

OTOH, pretty much any place you can think of, they can hide, it's all about frequency and how recent it is. You need to sort by region, relative position in the region, and direction, and probably a "last seen" would be nice

I think their point (the RCMP/VPD) is to make this exercise futile because eventually, there is not much of stretch between traps

Yeah I'll redo the thread later tonight so it's split into regions. I know last summer they were HUGE on the SE marine drive and grandview highway area but now they still do the knight street and granville areas and the idea is they're always at the same spots.

Red light cameras there are too many. Road blocks I really won't say anything about because I think catching drunk drivers is one of those things I agree with

Another thing I won't touch is HOV lanes... they're there for a reason and when I'm sitting in the regular lane and someone is cheating by using the HOV lane the feeling I get when I see them get caught is... well AMAZING.
