Subaru Stars WTB 2004-05 WRX White or Red ~$15K (Found one...maybe)

Hey all you out there. First NWIC thread woot!

Anway I'm looking for a WRX Red or White ~15k (Washington State).

Best one I have found (I have looked for 4 months now). Please respond with your thoughts... I'm driving this one Saturday.

I have found a Red WRX 2004

Issues:
  • 3 Owners with clear Carfax
  • 63k on car and 3k on engine/belts/clutch
  • Recently driven by 19 yo kid and dad is selling b/c insurance cost too much
  • While kid was driving "a seal was leaking oil and caused issues" resulting in replacing everything
  • Everything I mean clutch, engine, turbo etc everything. Around 7500 of work on the sheet from Eastside Services Inc in Issaquah, WA.
  • Damage to the front bumper that was reported to insurance but fixed by Mako for 300 bucks on a hit and run. Not on the Carfax for some reson.
  • I have talked to the dad and kid and both seem like nice people. Seems like the poor kid had it break on him before he could even rally it.
Mods:
  • 3 inch Catback Skunk 2 i think?
  • 1 1/2 inch lowered Eibach coil overs
  • K&N Filter
  • Stock otherwise (new engine lol)
Questions:
  • Why does the carfax show nothing yet it was reported to insrance and police on a small hit and run on the bumper?
  • Is this worth $17,475? or less?
  • Is there a good place to do a prebuy in the Kirkland/Eastside area?
  • Is pre-buy better at a small shop or dealership (recomendaions)
  • Are there any questions that you would have that I missed?
  • What would be the first mod?
  • Are there any good driving tests you would do?
Thanks!!! Can't wait to be a part of the Scooby Community.

I would recommend avoiding that car with the information you already have.

Doesn't a brand new engine make it tempting? I mean as long as the pre-buy looks good? I never see red/ manual/ premium package

It's hard to say whether its worth that price since it has all the new gear. In the summer of '06 I bought my '04 wagon w/ ~23k miles for $18k and I thought it was a pretty good deal. If everything is still factory warranted for another 3 years (or what is it? 30-36k miles?), I would say it is worth the price if everything else is in good shape. But after saying that, it never hurts to get the best deal you can.

Man, it would be bitchin to have an STi in that color...

I'd love it for like 2 months then probably wish my car was silver again though...

It's fishy, why would he spend so much money to have the car rebuilt basically only to sell it because "Insurance is too high"? If you got the money to play with the engine, trans, etc then you have the money for insurance.

Yeah, and if the info you were given is correct, the engine & everything was replaced at 60k. Why? Even if you are slightly over your 5 year/60k powertrain warranty, its pretty common for Subaru to cover those repairs if you are a few hundred miles over or something. The car was definitely still in warranty time-wise.

Its a nice looking car, but NOT worth 15k IMO. Keep looking; you can and WILL find a nicer one for that price.

Bought it for 16.5. The kid blew the motor by not putting oil in it. It's kinda a risk but red with the premium package is awsome. Had a prebuy done and I think I'm set. I'm just excited to take delivery.

I actually meet this kid one day when I was out at lunch in sammamish and seemed to be a cool kit but to be honest the car looked like it was in terrible condition when I saw it... Overall I dont think the car has been very well maintained and again what teenager has respect for a car like that when his dad bought it for him.
