Stupid shipping! Advice please.
So I just cancelled an order on some borla headers that was going to be About $600...... oh yeah plus the... $175 for shipping! Where should I buy them without getting shafted by outrageous shipping prices/ or is there anywhere online that actually has free shipping to Alaska?

That is a little high for shipping. But to just get a lip shipped up here from Suby dude was like $135-$170.00. Almost as much as the lip, but it's because of the dimensions.
I'm sure a few will have some suggestions for you. Most of the vendors try and find the cheapest shipping option for you, who were you ordering from? No way anyone will offer free shipping to Alaska, free shipping only applies to the lower 48. -Wes |

It was from Hop Up Racing. It said free shipping, but I should have known better. Is there any retailer in town that would have performance parts like this?

good luck. always remember that shipping to AK is expensive and the larger the box (doesn't matter if it only weighs 5 lbs) will always be $$$$.
Just bought my lip and vent visors from japanparts.com and costs $250 for shipping. Bought an Invidia DP as well adn that was $99 for shipping. get used to the insane shipping fees. |

no one has inexpensive shipping right now because of gas prices, your best bet is if you know some in the states the retailer can ship them to and then schedule fedex, ups, or depending on size usps to pick them up from there and bring them here, its a little tedious but if you want to save some cash on shipping. i had a downpipe shipped to my dad in WA and then scheduled usps to pick it up, they wanted $40 and some change, fedex wanted close to $100 and ups wanted $140, so if its small enough to come usps they have the best rates for sure. Another option is to find a consolidator in WA that brings containers of stuff for the general public and you pick it up from a warehouse when it come in but people mainly use this for huge items like cars ex. because its kind of expensive. Also you should be able to schedule you own shipping direct from the retailer just ask them for box demensions and weight and go online and get your own price quotes.

Try moving companies... they can sometimes stack in extra items... or freight consolidators.

kartboy.com has free shipping, but they only sell a few items. I just got a lightweight crank pulley for $85 shipped.
Also anything you get from the dealer can be stock ordered so no shipping. STi Pink springs are only $192 and you don't have to pay shipping, so it makes a difference. I was also able to get a 25mm swaybar from a Subaru Trebeca that fit my Legacy like a glove for $86 (Part# 20401XA00A). Besides that I have payed a lot to get car parts up here. Man they rape you in Alaska! |

Shipping to AK is just outrageous! I had a guy on the lgt forums having a hissy fit because I told him it'd cost a MINIMUM of $15 for me to ship a wire harness to him. He apparently didn't believe me. every try shipping ANYTHING from AK to Canada?? It's crazy! Last box I sent the in-laws at Christmas cost me $78!!! For a 15 lb box 15x15x12!! |

You can also have stuff drop shipped (I think that's the right term), get it sent via ground freight UPS or Fedex to Lynden in Tacoma and then they'll bring it up for you probably in a freight shipment on a barge. You'd have to call Lynden, or some of the other AK freighters and see if it'd be much cheaper tho.
I know it works good for the 4x4 and hot rod guys who ship axles and engines, body parts, etc a lot. I'm going to be checking to see what this route will cost to get a tranny from Summit Racing for my K5 Blazer one of these days. |
