Default manual throttle body for DBW STi for aircraft

Hi everyone,

I am a member of a group of about 25 people with STi 2.5 engines. They are supercharged and being used to power experimental homebuilt aircraft. To make a long story short, the company we bought these engines from has given up on the STi engine and we are left to support teach other.

Many things about the Firewall Forward package we bought (for considerably more than the price of an entire new STi car) were poorly thought out and poorly executed. Three years later, we are still sorting through all the unresolved issues.

We just had the only flying member of our group crash in Germany because his kluged stock ECU apparently detected some sort of throttle anomaly and put his engine into "limp home" mode. So, his throttle worked and rpms would change, but he had no power and he ended up crashing the plane. Fortunately, he walked away OK, though.

That was pretty much the final straw for the rest of us regarding the stock ECU and all its band-aid fixes. We are now looking at an aftermarket ECU; the SDS one made for aircraft by Racetech in Calgary, Canada.
His ECU will not support the electronic throttle, though, so we are now trying to find a replacement manual one that will fit in the same space between the Eggenfellner intake manifold and the supercharger intercooler.

We looked at an aftermarket device to control the DBW throttle,
but the maker said it didn't have a fail-safe mode that would keep the engine operating at at least 3400 rpm in case it detected something it didn't like. So that would put us back to the same problem caused by the stock ECU.

We really need to find a manual, cable-actuated throttle body that's no thicker than the DBW TB. Do any of you with experience with the cars know what model and year we might look for, either new from Subaru or from a junkyard?
