Default My turbo tried to eat my air filter

I should be too ashamed to admit this, but I let my KN air filter get far too dirty recently. Usually I clean every 6k, when I do my oil, but I let it go 9-10k this time. My car wasn't pulling as hard up top, so I thought I should take a look at the filter. When I opened up the stock airbox, it looked like a leprechaun had tried to punch his way through my air filter. The pleats were bent upwards towards my turbo, and the filter was extremely filthy. After a thorough cleaning, and some straightening out, my car is running better today. At first, thought that something had gotten through my stock intake and impacted the filter, which was not the case. It was just hard to believe that my filter was that dirty, until I cleaned it. My poor 155k mile turbo, it must have felt like it was suffocating!

Don't forget to clean your air filter! The more you know.....

Wow! Only 10K and it was that bad? I use OE filters and change them around 15K, and they don't look too bad.

my friends supercharged regal was only boostin 10psi, then he replaced the filter and started boostin 12psi. noticeably gained a tenth or two in the 1/4mi.
