Default Best rim tire combination for my 07 2.5i, save 30+lbs

I want to share with 2.5i/RS owners of the following setup. What a great improvements on handling and response!!! Here is what I did:

I recently brought a set of used SSR competition. These are 17x7.5" rims from a member from I-club:

The rims are a little rough looking. The previous owners must had a lot of fun with them. Anyway, these 17" rims weigh only about 12 lbs (bathroom scale) each without the center cup. That is a saving of about 5 lbs each over the stock rims for a total saving of 20 lbs.

Then I brought these tires from the tirerack:

If you notice, the 215/45/17 weigh only 18 lbs (tires of this size typically weigh 3-6 more lbs). That is about another 3 lbs saving each corner over the 16" OEM RE92. See spec here (also notice how heavy their 215/45/17 is):

The General tires are highly rated on tirerack.

Ok, the total reduction in rotational weight of rim and tire is about 32 lbs.

I am not going to say how the car drives after . I simply would like to recommend this to 2.5i drivers, highly.

Those tires are 4 lbs lighter than the Ectsa SPTs (both in the 215/45/17 you picked and the stock 205/55/16). Not too shabby.

And $600 for those wheels is a steal.

a guy @ the local subie meet has Generals on his M3 (he used to have a subie) and he said they were suprisingly well performing despite being inexpensive. dont know the tire model, might have been the same.
