Default tranny swap stub info

I have done extensive research on an 05' wrx to 02' swap, and this is what I have concluded.

The 02' stubs were held in place by snap rings. I would like to find a male stub that will work in the 05' that uses circlips.

I am under the impression that the only ones that will work are the early 04' Sti stubs. I may incorrect on that, but I really do need some help on this. A part # would be greatly appreciated.

i'm in the same boat as you man. I read that you only need the front axles and tranny to make an 05 work in a 02. I drive an early model 02 so unfortunately i was stuck with weak gears.

And my friend just totaled his sisters 05 wrx. And I was thinking about buying the car from the insurance company. hopefully the tranny is still good.

I have read the same thing.

One thread states that you need stubs with a large enough groove for circlips, but wrx m/t's from 02'-04' had male stubs, that were held in w/ snap rings.

So my understanding is that the 04' STi stubs would work, because of the circlips, which would really make my life alot easier.

Of course I could just bite the bullet and buy half shafts...

I know this topic may be redundant to some maybe even most, but clarification on this would really be helpful.
