Default Speed Sensor Issue After Swap! Gurus needed

I did a 04 wrx swap into a 93 impreza l wagon. I am using the complete wrx harness as well as the 04 wrx transmission and speed sensor.

The gauge cluster is cable driven but the ecu need the electronic signal which is why I kept it the same. I don't care if my speedo is working I just need it to run right.

What happens is when I reset the ecu the car acts normal but when I drive less then a mile the check engine light comes on with a speed sensor code. The car wont go past 4800 rpm.

I changed the speed sensor and made sure the wiring wasn't tampered with.

Is there any quick fix to this? I am not going to change the cluster unless there is absolutely no other option.

That will work provided the harness merge has the VSS wire going to the cluster on the 93. It would make sense that the merge would match the VSS wires for both harnesses and have the end points run where they need to be (cluster vs. tranny).

Certainly worth a try anyway....
