hey...i'm nowhere close to you, but i was wondering, 1. did you turbo it, 2. how is it getting cooled since i can't really see a fmic and theres no scoops on the hood, 3. is it expensive to fix/ maintence on ? ....i'm looking for hard-top miata's for a summer project. it would also be my first car.lol.

Yes, I turboed this car, and it does have an FMIC although it is not required to cool the turbo/engine properly, but it does add a healthy dose of power. Additionally those black things where the turn signal lights used to be are called TSI's (purchased from moss motors) which reduce the engine temp significantly as well. For a car this price with this much money put into it it might be worth your while to come check it out/ have it shipped.

I've always wondered about JDM motor swaps when getting a car inspected.

Do they check the VINs?

Is the car (parts) CARB legal/can it be smogged?

everything is legal/carb legal; this is a CA car and pased smog there... and as you know if a car can pass in Calfornia it can pass anywhere. I had the engine professionally swapped and have all paperwork for this car.

Car just passed smog with flying colors about a month ago

yep, original owner was from Southern Cal and did a little bit of commuting on the way to and from work. Believe it or not when i purchased the car it was still pumping strong on the original engine. Since I wanted to turbo I replaced it. Miata's are basically bullet proof if taken care of properly. With only a few more mods this car could easily hang out with Wrx's in the twisties.
