Default shifter suddenly very sloppy

my shifter all the sudden went very sloppy left to right (3-4 inches in gear)
front and back is still tight .. any ideas ?

You didn't say what transmission but I bet the spring came off!

it was the vertical bolt in the shift linkage ... would have been stranded except the bolt stopped on the tail shaft

Did the little bushing parts around it fall out?

dosn't appear so .. is back together and solid again .. since it didn't cme all the way apart i don't think the bushing could come out ..

i have the tic bearing in there ..
