Default Newbie needing some advice.

Hello everyone, I am a long time car enthusiast but am new to the world of Subaru's.

I just recently bought a 97 Legacy 2.5 GT Wagon. It has 146k miles on it. I got what I believe was a good deal even with the bad head gasket.

The seller's mechanic told him it had a blown head gasket and after reading through a lot of threads I am pretty sure it does. Cars runs fine but will build up pressure in the coolant system and discharge the coolant thru the overflow.

I am considering a lot of different options on what to do with it. I want to drive the car everyday (about 90 miles) to work so I have to have reliability.

Maybe I could get a some opinions from some of the people on here.

Have consider simply fixing the bad head gasket but I read that the 2.5 motors have major problems with head gaskets and there really isn't a good fix.

Swapping it for a 2.5 JDM engine. Do they have the same problems with the head gaskets?

Switching to an EJ22 for more reliability? and cheaper? Maybe an EJ22T to make more power/efficiency.

Possible thinking about selling it or parting it out.

Thanks, Mike

Bought a car with 127k miles and bought it for reliability. A car with this much miles will stat needing repairs. Engine swap would be great but you got other factures such as steering and suspension. Get that inspected while your putting a new motor in it.
