Default Front axles for JDM STi swap?

I have a swapped GC. Its a ver8 JDM STi, full drivetrain and all. I've recently torn the outer boots on both front axles, and need to replace them. Im opting for full axle replacement, as i have a feeling the clunking noises from my passenger side axle means bad things. The issue is, i have no idea what to get! Do i get axles from a USDM WRX? 04 USDM STi? And, where do i find these things? I checked napa, but they seem to only carry the WRX axles.

Thanks in advance!

I may not give you a complete answer but, I have put in a complete JDM V7 drivetrain in MY99 RS and I used the stock RS front axles. They fit and I have had the car for over 2 years with no problems. So I am guessing front axles are the same in dimensions, although there could be some difference in strength, maybe.

You could try this website
http://www.mazda-parts.com/partscat.html

or http://www.subarugenuineparts.com/
Just call them or email them, to ask about the specific part.

Oh and the clunking noise may be wheel bearing. If the wheel bearing is from your original car and has a lot of miles on, I would check that too.

The wheel bearing is from the swap car, so its low mileage.

any GC/GF axles will fit from 93-01. the rear end is a different story(93-97ish is diff. from 98+ iirc).

i used my L axles in my STi swap fwiw. held all 350WHP. R160 has identical driveshafts from 93-01 no matter if its an impreza or forester.

Ok, so, even though i have the STi 6-speed, along with the STi hubs, i can grab a set of axles from any 93-01 impreza and have em fit? I was worried that the wide-track stance of the new drivetrain meant that the axles would need to be a bit longer than the stock RS pieces. That being said, should i get 02 WRX axles? Would they fit? Are they a bit stronger than RS stuff?

R180 is what you need. and is only compatible with STi(usdm 04+). nothing else will work. im sorry i read wrong or misunderstood. older STi had R160 rear diff and small axle shafts like the L's etc. R180(180mm ring and pinion vs 160mm=R160) is the only thing useable. people have been using R160 shafts and getting R180 outer ends welded on. bad idea imho.

again, sorry. you can't use anything but R180 compatible(or custom bits)

even WRX uses the smaller/weaker R160 drivetrain bits.
