Default does 17" wheel make an impreza ride more quieter

02 impreza with stock springs , kyb gr2 shocks.... with 16" right now...

can a set of 17" with good tires make it ride more stable, and more quiet?

"more quieter"?

It mostly depends on the tire. Stiffer sidewalls can help with stability, but may create a harsher ride. Tread pattern/design makes the biggest difference in how quiet a tire is. You could probably gain both stability and quietness by just going to an upgraded 16" tire. Just do a lot of research before buying.

If you're worried about noise/comfort stick with 16's.

Generally the shorter the sidewall, the harsher the ride and the more noise you will hear. But this is also dependent on the tread design and sidewall stiffness. Sometimes worn tires can become quite noisy, so it may be possible to replace worn (and noisy) 16s with quieter (at least initially) 17s. But generally if you are concerned with ride and noise, stick with 16s. If you want more performance along with slightly more noise and a bit harsher ride, go with the 17s.

Noise mostly depends on the tire. e.g. for summer season i have bridgestone potenza re050a and i can feel big difference when i put mine winter nokian wr tyres. Potenzo's are quite noisy tires...
