I would like to mod my '94 Legacy Turbo Touring Wagon, but I just cant find any parts for it. I've found parts for my year Legacy, but I don't know if they will fit the turbo engine. I would also like to find a body kit or at least a ground effects kit, I have had no luck in this department as well. Should I be looking in Japan? I'm not sure if they used the turbo 2.2 though. Would there maybe be a body kit over there? Am I better off trying to make and fit some parts myself? Does any one out there Know if my car is intercooled? Dumb question I know, but I have looked under the hood and read the owners manual, and come up with nadda.

The US turbo's weren't intercooled. But, you can get a Japanese intercooler or some people have used Saab 900 intercoolers. For body kits you may be able to get something through SPO Motorsports in Seattle? They had done up a 97 GT wagon that was in SCC a couple years ago. I think their webpage is (www.spomotorsports.com) Good luck, I'm actually trying to find a 94 turbo wagon myself, but not much luck so far!

Try looking west for one. Mine is origanlly from Colorado. I havent seen any in the midwest. My friend and I were looking for a new car for him, and the dealer ships here kept asking if I would trade mine in, some of them didnt even recognise that it is a Subaru.
Would it be possible to rebuild my turbo with slightly larger impellers to gain a little more boost? It has 8.7 psi from the factory, I would like to get an even 9 or maybe 9.5 psi. Would that be cheaper than buying a brand new turbo setup? Last edited by rpmiller78; 03-12-2002 at 11:34 AM. |

rpmiller78,
The turbo legacy is a wolf in sheep's clothing. That engine has soo much potential.....it's just not funny, and the thing is....most people don't know. The 2.2T engine was only used in the states for productions cars. It is a 2.2 liter closed deck block, so extremely durable engine. It has oil splash coolers to help cool the piston skirts, and some other specific engine stuff as well for being a turbo. Boost can be turned up to somewhere around 10-11 psi without the addition of an intercooler or getting too nutty with anything else. To do this you will need a boost controller. There are two types: manual and electronic. The manual ones work, but the electronic ones I have heard are better if you got the cash. That being said. if you want more boost you'll need an intercooler. Getting an intercooler to "bolt on" in these cars is like killing a tiger with a fork..... Austrailia got water-air intercoolers. They work very well, but are rather expensive to retrofit and get everything. A/A intercoolers are less expensive....less efficient....but require some customizing to get them to fit. I don't know if there are just "bolt on" kits. i sorta doubt it. So at this point if you went this far. You would have more boost and an intercooler. I would highly recommend you start upgrading componants in the engine. There really is no good aftermarket intake for the turbo legacy. I'd recommend a K&N drop in panel filter as well as removing the intake snorkel in the fenderwell. Look into an MSD II ignition system with a coil pack off a late model sube. Upgrade stock spark plug wires to a good brand, Magnecor or NGK carry 8.5mm wires. I'd also look into other tune-up issues, plugs, pcv valve, fuel filter as well. light weight crank pulley is also an option....may not be as noticable an improvement on a turbo car. Lastly....with all the boost and what not.....you're injectors are goin to start starving for fuel. So an uprated pump and fuel pressure regulator will probably help. If you do all that. You should be able to haul some arse. As for body kits.....good luck. I've had several people ask me about them. But honestly I have never really seen any in the states. You can try lookin over in japan....but they are goin to be slim pickings because of age or just a **** load of money. I will second , and highly recommend if you are serious in doing any of the above stuff. Check out the BC-BF Legacyworks group. There are guys on there that extremely knowledgeable and helpful. josh |
