Lots of people have run 225/45-16 (wider than I'd want to go on a 6.5" rim, but it can, and has, been done)

you can go as big as 225/50-16 on stockers. 45 series will give a slightly better feel on turn-in and cornering, but 50 series is more common, has more options and is a little more affordable (typically...)

Default mine...

I am running 225/50R16 on my stockers...no problems...they are bridgestone potenza re960AS pole position tires, and tirerack says that they are good to mount on a wheel that is 6.5-7.5 inches wide...so...good there. I don't have any rubbing problems or anything and i am lowered 1.5 inches...
