The official PNW restaurant review/recommendation thread
I had a dream about creating this thread last night to enlighten locals and travelers on great and not so great restaurants in our 'hoods.
So, post up the location of the restaurant/hotel/B&B/brothel/etc...and why it's good or bad, price range, type of food and so on. I went to the Red Star in Portland last night and it was terrible. The Exec. Chef is a good friend of mine and expected WAY more than it was. The total bill was $125+ (no drinks) and we had $50+ comped due to an overcooked steak and super crappy timing. You can check out the menu at http://www.redstartavern.com/ and avoid the place at all costs.

Fox Sports Grill in seattle - Great food, amazing atmosphere (I want one of those waterfalls in my house...) and always fun when theres a game on. I highly recommend this wether you want a classy getaway with your sweetheart or you just wanna watch a game and relax. I go there alot with my girl and she seems to enjoy it.
Price for a good meal is around 15 dollars a person including drinks. The food is great and I always get a side ceaser which is delicious. |

I'm so stoked to be the 1st to post this... BUT!!!
The Acrop in milwaukie! $4 steak specials! Oh yeah, its a strip club.. haha. but the owners also own a cattle ranch so the meat on your table is better than the meat dancing in front of you. Also they have a hamburger thats served on a whole loaf of frechbread for like $9 and if you get it togo they just stuff it in a brown paperbag! go on mon/tue to avoid the cover... http://portland.citysearch.com/review/8454360/1554122 |

Big Daddy's Smokehouse on Lombard in St. Johns
service is kinda spotty and I dont think I've seen the same server there twice, but the food is hella good and its cheap. Plus I think the "hazed and confused" is some of the best beer I've ever had. BIG pitchers for $10 and the 3x3 or 6x6 wing/thigh plates are very tasty.. The peanut BBQ is our new fav sauce. Plus they have like 7 projection TV's so if you wanna catch the game or what-not its cool.. Oh yeah, I even asked if they'd put on SpeedTV and we watched a rally there last year. |

I've got a FEW that I like!
Steak: Jak's Grill in the U-Dist. Best steak I've ever had, great laid back, friendly atmosphere. Expect to spend around $60+ for two people. Sushi: Nishino at the Arboretum used to be my favorite until Masa, my favorite chef, left and I have yet to find him. My classic favorite would have to be either I Love Sushi on Lake Union, or Shiro's in Belltown. |

There's one in Issaquah too (haven't been to it). From what I hear, they get their steak from the same place the Metropolitan does and they cook it just as well for almost half the price. It's a great place to enjoy amazing meats and remain laid back and casual. Quote:
That said, I really like Blue-C sushi in U-Village (the one in Fremont is OK too). Last edited by WebMasterP; 09-25-2006 at 06:05 PM. Reason: added info about Sushi |

Dixie's BBQ on Northup Way. The 520 sandwiches are good and you gotta "meet the man".
Around $10, long queue, but well worth the wait. http://www.seattledining.com/ARCHIVE...nts/dixies.htm Ceder river BBQ in Renton is another goodun. Pork and hotlink sandwich ftw. Nice atmosphere with model cars all over the walls. http://www.crshbbq.com/lunch.html Stay clear of "Wilde Rover Irish Pub" in Downtown Kirkland. I've been to a lot of irish pubs in my time and this one sucked sweaty bollocks bigtime!!!!! Food portions tiny and bloody expensive and not very good food. Had to wait ages, and when it came was not impressed. I will never go back. You've been warned!!!!!! That said, it might be okay for a beer with a few mates, but don't waste your time or money taking the family there for a meal. |

Local Boyz in Corvallis, OR. Best Hawaiian food there is. Depending on the size you want it can range from $5-10 a meal. But if you get the Blah size you will not need to eat for the rest of the day.

I recommend
The Rock Wood-Fired Pizza
http://www.therockwfp.com Great atmosphere, awesome pizza! I've been to the Lynnwood (2x) and Lake Tapps (10x+) locations and the service has been excellent each time. |

I haven't tried the pizza at The Rock and was definitely not impressed either time with anything but the beer.
RedMill Burgers, one on Phinney Ridge and one in Interbay and holy ish they make some awesome burgers and shakes. I think they've cleaned up on all the local "best burger" awards for more than a few years now. Blue C sushi @ happy hour is the time to go...4-6pm on weekdays. Sapporo and enough sushi to stuff yourself for only $10-15. Z-Tejas, went last night for the first time and their margarita selection is excellent and the food was really, really, REALLY good. Great service too. |

i'd have to disagree. i went there once and had a burger. the bun was burnt and the burger was undercooked. if you're playing averages, i guess it was perfect, but well, no, it sucked.

Steak:
Morton's Great steak, bad atmosphere. The restaurant is underground. If you like wines, this is the place to go. Their wine list is VERY extensive. I want to say they have some up in the $1500/btl range. Daniel's Broiler Good steak, great atmosphere. I hear that the Bellevue one is better than the one on Lake Union Ruth Chris Good steak. Pretty popular, but I don't like my steak sitting in a pool of butter. Sushi: Wasabi Bistro Sushiman Pizza: The Rock Zeek's Other: Palisades I'd say it leans towards seafood but they do have some nice cuts of meats. They have a Hawaiian styled cooking. El Gaucho Decent place to eat. Good entertainment and a wide menu selection. |

I eat out a lot, and I must say (imo) you guys make better car guys than food critics.
Acrop is a great place for "titties and steak", great place for the price, but I'd rather spend the $25 or so dollars to dine at Ringside, acrop tends to be a bit dry, but whatever.... I wasn't impressed with Morton's. Ruth's and Ringside get my votes for steak houses. Local Boyz in Corvallis is OKAY. I've had MUCH MUCH better Hawaiian food. I'd even take Noho's (who used to own Local Boyz as well) over Local Boyz. One of my favorite restaurants is Three Doors Down in Portland off of Hawthorne (37th i believe). Food is fantastic and the menu changes regularly (yes they have a few staples). A must try is the this mozzerella with some sweet sauce and bread. A glorified grilled cheese sandwich since i can't remember what it was called. The seafood pasta is great! It's slightly spicy and is full with pasta, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams. Spendy, and expect to wait for a seat (last time for a group of 4 we waited about 1.5 hours). Call ahead and you might have a seat sooner. If you like soups...try out Hot Pot City just outside of downtown Portland. You get this broth and it's all you can eat with a nice selection of meats, seafoods, and veges. There are different flavored broths some spicy some not, but none bland. Mamma Malina (I think that's how it's spelled) in the U-district in Seattle was pretty good. I wouldn't say as good as 3DD but it was not bad. I also recommend BCD Tofu ... Edmunds, WA I believe? For BBQ Delta on Woodstock in Portland is hit-or-miss. Sometimes it's great. Other times you have to TEAR the meat off the ribs. Russell St. BBQ in NE Pdx is pretty good. I dunno about Big Daddy's. I tried the one on Hawthorne and it's pretty bad. I felt that I would've been more satisfied eating McD's... okay...so maybe I'm not much of a food critic either. But there's my 2 pennies. |

$25 at the acrop!!! what is that? like $5 for steak and $20 for girls with stab wounds and C-Section scars and a pitcher of bud light?!?!?!
damn i roll that place for like $10... thats $4 for steak, $1 for the dancer and $5 on some cheap ass beer.. if your spending that much head to Union Jacks on burnside.. its run by the russian mafia but they have some super good imported beer and hot girls with tats! |

If I'm in Portland I make an effort to go to Helzers on Alberta for breakfast.
