Default Dutch company to unveil electric van in Paris

AMSTERDAM -- Dutch company DuraCar Holding will unveil a plug-in electric van at the Paris auto show.

Called the Quicc DiVa, the small van will target the inner-city delivery market. DuraCar says pilot production of 300 units is planned for 2009, followed by series production of 15,000 units a year from 2010.

The DiVa has a plastic body on a plastic chassis. The car's name is a shortened form of the words distribution van.
The DiVa is DuraCar's first vehicle but it plans to launch more models under the Quicc brand name.

DuraCar's main shareholder is Econcern, a holding company that invests in sustainable energy projects.

Johann Tomforde, who was the chief designer at Daimler's Smart minicar brand, is part of DiVa's design team. Tomforde joined DuraCar earlier this year.

DuraCar says the DiVa will have a top speed of 120km/h and a range of 150km with a lithium ion battery or 100km if fitted with a cheaper lead battery.

Initially the DiVa will be available only on a lease basis with leasing costs up to 50 percent higher than those for a diesel van.

Duracar says the higher costs will be offset by lower overall running costs.
