Thumbs down I've about had it with Perrin and their Toronto Distributors

I emailed perrin about 3 weeks ago about getting new bushings for my swaybars. They responded the next day saying that yes they do have them, and if i could give them a shipping address, they would get back to me with a shipping quote. I responded within 2 hours.

8 days later I still hadn't gotten a response. WTF i thought, so I emailed them back. 3 hours later I get a response saying that they were still waiting for a shipping quote.

Ok, I thought, thats understandable. So 5 days pass and still no quote. So I email again asking whether or not I can get a part number so i can source them locally. A few days later I get an email back simply saying 35 dollars + 29.99 for bushings, no explanation as to why it costs so much (courier? usps? dogsled? Carrier Pigeon?).

WTF. 35 dollars to ship 2 goddamn bushings with a combined size of less than my palm, and weigh less than a pound. You could throw them in a goddamn ENVELOPE and have them mailed over they are so small.

In the meantime, while i was getting dicked around by perrin, I'd tried to contact some perrin distributors. It seems none want my business. Sure it may be bushings now, but later on it may be something bigger.

I recently bought struts off a vendor of this forum(TSC), and because he was such a pleasure to deal with, I decided to buy springs and have and will refer other automotive enthusiasts his way. This vendor is by no means local to me, but it was the little things that impressed me, like calling me before thanksgiving weekend to see if I wanted to order springs, so that I would get them 4 days sooner, stuff like that.


Unfortunately, there is another vendor that I used to recommend to auto enthusiasts (as recently as a 2 months ago for a good buddy of mine's brake pads), that just don't seem to care. It seemed this vendor didn't want to help me get my bushings. Well that's his business. Literally. The vendor also did not seem very intent on wanting to help me get other parts. I was getting one word answers, no price/delivery estimates.....It seems the vendor did not want my business. That's fine, just don't expect any in the future. I am willing to pay MORE for service.

So in the meantime, I'm stuck with a clunky rsb with bad bushings, no where to get some bushings without haing to spend 70 dollars because

1) Perrin likes to ship bushings via Hand-fed Carrier Pigeons

2) The distributor I would normally deal with has decided that my small beans bushing order is not worth his time..(Come on buddy, I just ordered 1300 dollars in suspension off your competition because I felt you did not DESERVE my business)...and I have more parts orders on the way

3) Service is important, and I'd rather not deal with poor customer service, even if this manufacturer has a (argueably) good reputation in the subaru community. making me wait over a week for a quote? PUH-LEASE.
It could have been as simple a response as "we got your email, we're just double checking now"

I might just have to go buy me some whiteline bushings...Perrin may have dropped the ball here.

I'm not saying the delay is warranted, but its something that goes on more with enthusiast orientated vendors. When you are getting a response it is from an actual person, not automated and not from a 8 dollar an hour employee getting paid to answer emails.

I'm thinking there was some ball dropped, since I doubt Perrin would want to lose it's Subaru following. Not that one person refusing to buy from them would draw them to bankruptcy, but every hit is still a hit.

There have been select vendors from here that I have purchased from/asked questions from and none have left me dissappointed.

If you still believe in the quality of the Perrin products, find a good dist. and only order from them.

I'm not sure if Oakos was/is a vendor you had issues with, but with the satisfaction I have received from this vendor, I would be willing to pay extra for them to get me stuff they don't even stock. (Just to drop the coin with them)

It's not even one thing, I have ALOT of Perrin on my car. None of the vendors that I had issues with were found off NASIOC, although a few of them do have accounts here as well.

The vendors that I have problems with won't be getting parts orders from me. Period. And I'll order 20 thousand dollars worth of parts a year, for friends and customers...but mostly for friends, where i'm not concerned with getting the cheapest part. If i can get something in my hands, and not be annoyed by the process, I'll pay the extra 5% or whatever it may be.

Perrin dicking me around like this may have cost them 4 complete F+R sway bars, 4 complete sets of endlinks, 4 sets of subframe bolts, 2 diff covers, and 4 inlet hoses within the next month. Was it worth it for a 30 dollar part? I mean, in the grand scheme of things, that parts order above won't even put a dent in their bottom line...thats barely 2 thousand dollars worth of parts. They've effectively taken their products out of consideration in my circle of influence...

All the parts that I listed above, with the exception of the diff covers (for now), I can get through different manufacturers anyways....

If a perrin rep could chime up and explain the delay, that'll be nice, If they don't, no skin off my nose either.
