Default Help! engine light on 05 impreza rs

Engine light came on today as well as the cruize control light flashes. Had code ran o2 sensor low volt too lean. I put a cold air on bot left the torque box plus 2.5" catback magnaflow exhaust on. Would this cause my car to run too lean or is something else going on. sensor is near $400.00. Any suggestions?

check subarugenuineparts.com or other online vendors, $400 sounds like about $250 too much for an O2 sensor... and a CAI will generally cause a slightly leaner AFR because the ECU doesnt automatically compensate for the larger diameter intake, so it thinks less air is being drawn in than actually is. good thing is that you can do something about that. go check out www.romraider.com and do some searches here on NASIOC, you will see whats up.

What was the CEL code? Depending on the code you can isolate whether or not it's the upstream or downstream sensor and go from there (I think O2 is downstream as upstream is referred to as AFR sensor). Have you tried resetting ECU to see how quickly it reappears?

Yes, that's definitely a potential problem, but I don't think it's the issue here. Give us the exact code number the reader found rather than the description.

Default the codes

P0131- Low Voltage(Bank 1 Sensor 1)
p2097-Post catalyst fuel trim system too rich(Bank 1)

Car is running a little rough. Has trouble starting after it warms up too.

from what I hear...if you reset your ecu before install the ecu adapts to what it needs..but from what I hear ram air and cold air make the car run rich not lean...cause ecu trys to level out the mixture.

1) Reset or not, the ECU will do the same learning to correct fueling

2) The CAI/SRI will make the car run wrong, whither it runs rich or lean is a crapshoot that depends on the car and intake. The only error that's certain is the huge resonance I wrote about in my hybrid intake thread.

Well should i change the Bank 1 sensor 1. Does it read and adjust the fuel/air ratio. Would it cause the car to run like i said. And if i do change it will the setup i have now cause the new one to go bad. Should i have my car tuned.

Lots of questions but no question marks...

P0131 is caused by a sensor malfunction (most of the time), not a fueling issue related to your intake. Had the same code last year, replaced the upstream sensor and was good to go. Car ran like absolutely crap with this code, probably automatically trips limp mode. Replace the upstream sensor (AFR Sensor or Bank 1) and reset ECU. Your fueling is probably all over the map as a result of malfunctioning sensor and could be compounded by your intake, this could cause the second CEL code (2097).
