2006 Legacy wagon

Default Toyo Garit HT

Is this a good winter tire? Toyo Garit HT 205/55 16?
Also I drive a 2006 legacy wagon will 16's fit? Im assuming so the brakes dont look that big. And how bad does tire size effect your speed-o and mileage?
say going from a 17 stock
to a 205/55 16 with snow tire

thanks in advance

The Subaru Legacy comes with two different 17 inch tire sizes.

2.5 GT LTD Sedan & Wagon > 215/45ZR17 = 24.6 inches overall diameter
2.5i LTD Sedan & Wagon and 2.5i Special Edition Sedan & Wagon > P205/50R17 = 25.1 inches overall diameter

Toyo Garit HT 205/55R16 (Discontinued) overall diameter = 25.0 inches

If you have the P205/50R17 oe tire the 205/55R16 is no more than a 2% decrease in overall diameter from your stock tire.

If you have the 215/45R17 oe tire size the overall diameter is smaller than the 205/55R16 and is no more than a 2% increase in diameter from the oe tire size.

The Toyo Garit HT has an "H" speed rating. Some states do not allow you to use a tire that does not meet the vehicles OE tire specs. including the meeting the oe tires speed rating. However, most states do not care because the snow conditions would not permit you to drive that fast. (check with your local road laws) Other than that, to simply answer your question - you can use the 205/55R16 tire size and you should not have any affect on your mileage or speedometer and other related systems. But for a better fit for your vehicle the Toyo Snowprox S952 would be better to use on your vehicle and comes in all the sizes listed above.
