News STi-based Murtaya Roadster (Updated 3/3/2009, post #61)

Still being tuned in the UK, but it should find its way over to me early next year.

Based on a 99 STi Type-R, it's going to be LHD and use a US-spec 2.5L along with a US-spec 6-speed for registration purposes.

And a lower-quality picture of her with three of her sisters:

It's been exciting following the (often slow) progress of the first cars coming out...Can't wait to get it over here.

*I don't post here much, so if I've broken any rules (images too large?), let me know (though this being nasioc, I'm sure I don't have to ask this ).

Exclamation More info...

I'll try to get more replies later...for now, details in general can be found at http://www.murtaya.com...

But the road version should weigh about the same as an Elise (~2000lbs). They're still breaking in the engine so they can tune the mapping...but the lower map should be under 300hp (focusing more on mileage, emissions, etc.)...upper map should be...well, we'll see...maybe around 350hp? Either way, it'll be a lot more car than I can handle (at least at first), and I don't want to start the "Save the Murtayas" T-shirt trend by wrapping it around a telephone pole...

The car comes standard with your choice of a softop or hardtop; getting the second is a cost option.

Hmmm…. Several hundred pounds less than a Miata and the power and drive train of an STI. Sounds wicked.

It looks like a Miata with a body kit. Subaru is going to have to get more innovative than that.

Subaru has zero to do with this. It's a "kit" car that uses Subaru running gear.

Are you buying it turn key Mike?

Cool (since I'm not the U.S. distributor...Unfortunately he is all the way over in Denver. ). I'll post some more pics of other cars (including rally-spec cars with permanent hardtops, etc.).

Yeah...First turn key on this side of the world...Though there is a carbon fiber version of the kit being built up in Canada right now. Maybe I'll try building one myself someday, but I'm too eager to have this one hitting the ground running when I get it...

The guys who make it (Adrenaline Motorsport) are located in Cornwall, England. It's all country out there, and currently they are building them in a barn, of all places. They did a lot of development testing and breaking in on those back country roads. In fact, there's video of them running in my car on those same back roads (and I even got to test drive the demo car on them when I visited...the only good part about those roads were that they were too narrow for me to accidently drive on the wrong side of the road...it being the UK and all).

If it's also ok to post, there's an MSN.UK auto review on the road-spec demo car from AMS that gives some stats: http://cars.uk.msn.com/Reviews/artic...mentid=9549828

How do you figure? Its the same location as the AEM. Not much of anywhere else to put it, if you can engineer a better one, do it and sell it to other owners. edit: If you read the build sheet it uses any subaru short ram, tbe ect. so it probaly was a AEM

To the OP, looks cool. Id like to see one in person.

I'll be sure to keep you updated. I live in the US--As for the registration, I haven't had to do much...yet. The Murtaya was designed from the start to comply with US standards, but so far the main things that were needed were a US-spec engine and likewise a US-spec transmission. I also got it in LHD. AMS and the U.S. distributor will be tasked with the majority of the registration (though I'm planning on going to the Department of Licensing and getting the extra certificate of inspection for the registration). Will it be straight forward? If it is, it would be the first during this process. :) Worse comes to worst, it'll be a fun track car...

I'm surprised so many people have given it the thumbs up here...Usually its style is pretty polarizing. Maybe the back will stir opinions? :) (if the back end looks familiar to some people, know that the same guy who helped design the S1 Lotus Elise also designed this car):
