Default 02 HVAC swapped with 05+ auto HVAC

Im installing 05+ STI auto HVAC into my 02 WRX. I SEARCHED THROUGH OVER 400 THREADS READING UP ON THIS:

YES it can be done
YES it requires effort.

you need to remove EVERYTHING from the dashboard including the dash cover its self. its alot to remove.

Drain the coolant
Discharge the A/C (do it properly for the sake of our ozone)

I have the following parts:

complete 05+ STI center console
05+ auto HVAC control panel ( knobs and buttons)
05+ auto HVAC Heater core and A/C evaporator assembly with servos
the appropriate plugs that connect to the above units.
Making my own wiring harness

I have 2 questions:

1) is there anything else needed? i heard something about a sunlight load sensor and also something about a "control module" is there any other components i need? special module boxes that may be hidded beneath the dash? Maybe the STI blower motor?

2) Does anyone have a wiring diagram for these components? < i really really really need this.....

when finished i will publish a full how-to on this subject but i need a bit of help.

im tryin to do the same. i would like to do the s204 dash kit but its a bit pricey. you can go to a local subaru dealership and at the parts department ask for a wiring schematic for the blower motor assy.

i have seen some really nice swaps and im a huge fan of the end result. i havent seen a right-up or a sticky about this conversion yet though.

I have been researching on this same swap and there is a sun load sensor that goes on the dash where the defrost vents come out and also the is a outside temp sensor that goes in the front of the car like in the grill i think i have the schematic somewhere ill try to find it

^You are correct. Sun sensor on the dash, right in the middle and also an outside temp probe. I love my auto HVAC...of course, mine came with it! Good luck with your conversion!

Try this schematic (2004, pg3): http://www.autocds.ru/2004%20STI/07....g%20System.pdf

It's from an 04, but it's probably the same.

i contacted millennium auto (www.y2kimports.com) when i was researching doing the swap in my bugeye and the said they would sell dash harnesses for something like $30 so i would check with them that might make the swap easier

ok so upon hours of further research, ive concluded that the 02 and 05 ECU's are not compatable. the 05 ECU has 5 plugs with a total of 88 pins. the 02 has 5 different shaped plugs with 120+ pins. not one plug is the same between the two cars. now some of the pins are unused so i even counted the number of wires on all of my plugs. there are 93 IIRC. The 04+ STI's have only 4 plugs but they each have MANY more wires. so long story short: id need some kind of wacky conversion harness.

im almost positive they made a JDM WRX with auto climate controls in 01-02 (bugeye years in japan) but the harness would be RHD and almost unusable in a LHD car.

im wiring it all up my self. ive made my own pin out chart which i will post once its tested and working properly.

pics to come soon....

Wow. Sounds like a ton of work.

If I were able to swap out my LGT's auto for a manual system easily, I'd do it in a second. I love the manual system in the wife's base outback and the LGT auto one is a pain in the butt that I have to constantly play with for it to just do what I want.
