Default Volvo going live at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show

Anxious about the possibility of a low turnout in attendance by car and business media at chief auto shows all over the world, Volvo Car Corporation has developed a ground-breaking media service. Its opening utilization will be on January 11 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. “Media attendance at the major auto shows is critically important to Volvo for the launch of new vehicles and the sharing of corporate news.

It was vital to consider new ways of reaching our core media base and to help journalists do their job regardless of their ability to travel or attend auto show media previews,” explains Peter Ganjbar, Manager Broadcast Media Relations at Volvo Cars. Volvo Cars will premiere the latest crossover XC60 in Detroit together with a ground-breaking S60 Concept version, and will make public the firm’s most current safety engineering system.

“Volvo must continue its outreach to the world’s media and allow journalists access to product information and corporate perspectives regardless of economic conditions. It is our obligation to help the press do its job,” continued Ganjbar.

In this instance the solution aired via High Definition (HD) broadcast and synchronized interactive global webcast, generated live from the Volvo display section in Detroit. The program will last for one hour and will air all over the United States through the DIRECTV satellite system, now agreed to be the nation’s #1 satellite broadcast supplier and connected to in excess of 41 million homes in the US. The HD TV airing consist of live coverage of the Volvo press conference supported by particular executive interviews and explanations of product lines.

“But, the real news is our interactive ability to accept text media questions and to respond to these in real-time both on-air and via the web. This unique concept was first developed by havoctv for music and sports programming and will be adapted for this purpose,” said Ganjbar.

The interactive Volvo/havoctv internet broadcast will allow global viewing of the press to watch the Volvo press conference and other elements of the program online and to send their questions via text messaging from a PC or suitable mobile device during the program to an on-site host in Detroit.

After which the host will shoot the questions to the program guests. Their answers will be viewed and heard in real time on both the DIRECTV television broadcast all over the United States and through the global webcast. Involving media will be requested to register in advance to get an online media access code. Media Password registration will begin on January 5 and will proceed through January 10.
