Default STX Tire Question.

I have a set of 17x7.5 wheels that are going to be my dedicated autox wheels this season. I'm planning on ordering a set of Dunlop star specs within the next week or so, and I'm still undecided on what size to get, the 225/45 or the 235/40. The 225's are cheaper and should have less sidewall flex due to the better fit, correct? But the 235's are slightly shorter and would give a small gearing advantage as well as having a wider contact area, but would they flex more because they would be mounted on a 7.5 inch wide wheel?

The car has coilovers with camber plates.

Any suggestions?

I'd get the 235/40s for shorter gearing... which is like added HP.

What he said. ^^

FWIW I have 245/40's on my 7.5"s but am switching to the 235's this year. Also keep in mind Bridgestone has the RE011s here now so keep an eye on national drivers to see tire results.

The sidewall flex should be made up for by the incresed width. And for advice you could always go with the default "turn earlier". The Star Specs are great tires in most of the important categories, but they do not pay contingency money. That only matters if you run events that make you eligible anyways. Go wide!

Perry the 235/40's are the only way to go!!! I would think they would flex less being shorter

Dave, I am sure that you are looking forward to the RE-11's. At the Subaru Challenge, you seemed to like the RE-01R's. I am signed up to run STU at Dixie. Hope to see you there!

Hey John, signed up to go to Dixie

actually I have a new set of RE-01r's, I love these tires, 1 advantage over the RE-11's is you can turn them inside to outside for more life, plus you can actually buy them. Mythical tires don't grip so well!!
